amywilko's Full Review: Terry Pratchett - The Truth
The real debate in 'The Truth' is which paper you find most interesting - the Inquirer has its own absurd little stories, yet the Times has stories that you may actually want to read. I mean, who REALLY cares about a woman giving birth to snakes? If I was in Ankh-Morpork right now, I'd probably want to read about the ruler of the city being imprisoned by the Watch. I'd certainly want to know all the details, probably because I'm a nosy parker, but I'd want to know who would be running the city!
At the moment, I must say that I prefer the Times, as the characters here are much more defined than the Engravers. It seems they set up their own little press just to put them out of business, which I do not think runs the whole ethos of Ankh-Morpork (yet I may have got the message wrong). I prefer the times because of Otto, the vampire with a very, very suicidal fascination for the light in his camera - his commitment to photography is a testament as to how far William, Sacharissa, Goodmountain and all the dwarfs will go to just to make sure that the Times does not go under just because of some Engravers who can't face the fact that someone has come up with the idea of printing before them. Now I've got that off my chest, it's time to go read some more!
