mfalls5511's Full Review: Anne Rice - The Vampire Lestat
The book starts out with an overview so to speak of Lestat and his life. He explains, that he is immortal. What can kill him, to be burned in a fire and his ashes spread, or being dismembered, cut into pieces and the body parts spread about. he gives his description as 6 feet tall, thick blond hair almost shoulder length and Grey eyes. His skin is almost white. His only need in his immortal life is human blood he has to drink it to keep his appearance close to human.
His Mortal life
Lestat was born in the 1780s. He is the third son of a nobleman in France. he went to school to study with the monks in a monastery, but as soon as he decided to become one of them his father and two older brothers wouldn't have it. They pulled him out of the school and brought him home. Then later he sneaked away with a group of Gypsies and became an actor for a very short period of time before his brothers found him out and beat him severely and brought him home.
Then he had his spot light when a pack of wolves were killing the sheep and livestock in the village he lived, so he took out after them and killed them all losing his horse in the battle. He carried the Alpha male home with him and one of his brothers sneered you only killed one wolf. Lestat didn't leave his bed chamber for days after that until the shop owners and towns people brought him gifts for the noble deed. This is where he meet Nikki his friend and lover later on in the story. Nikki is one of the shop owner son's who was sent to Paris to learn Law, but sold his books to learn the Violin under Mozart.
Nikki and Lestat spend more and more time together until they make a pact together to run away together to Paris where Nikki could study the violin and he could work in the theaters.
Life in Paris was extremely difficult, but Lestat prospers and is doing well in the theater. Nikki also did well with his violin. Lestat is on stage and feels a presence starring at him like no other presence. It is something different and he loses his train of thought. This presence or person or whatever it is keeps coming back to the theater until one night when Nikki and Lestat are fast asleep something breaks into their room and Kidnaps Lestat.
Lestat wakes in the morning with an uncontrollable thirst and there is a bottle of wine waiting for him there along with food that he drinks and eats and then another bottle of wine. Well, the person that kidnapped him comes to him it is a vampire and his name is Magnus. Magnus makes Lestat a vampire by drinking all of Lestats blood. Then making Lestat drink his blood. Magnus gives Lestat some brief instruction about the sun being able to kill him and to sleep in the coffin that is below during the day. Magnus leaves Lestat with riches in the form of Jewels and old coins. He then creates a fire in the tower and tells Lestat to scatter his ashes about when the fire goes out and Magnus jumps right into the fire and is burned alive, when the fire goes out Lestat spreads out the ashes and goes to the coffin and sleeps.
This is a book I know you shall enjoy if only you will choose to read it. I have told you enough about it to start the fire of burning interest.
I relate really well with the main character Lestat. It seems that no matter what he does his brothers, and in my case one side of my family, nothing is ever good enough. His brothers and his father want him to be and attempt to make him exactly what they want him to be, a nothing with the title of nobleman, just like themselves.
I have read almost all of the Vampire chronicles and have enjoyed everyone of them. I think Anne Rice is an awesome author. I read the Vampire Chronicles so that I may reach worlds and countries that I will never be able to go to in person.
I really don't care too much for the male to male sex parts in her (Anne Rice) books, but they are there and I must live with them to enjoy the books.
