| bbbradk's Full Review: The Westin Ottawa |
Just back from a quick weekend trip to Ottawa.
I was lucky enough to get a great rate for the Westin on Hotwire (www.hotwire.com)
I paid $51.00 USD per night for a 2 night stay over the Labour Day Weekend.
The regular rate currently posted on the hotels website is around $220.00 per night.
So I got a really good deal.
The hotels location is incredible!!, it is within walking distance of every major attraction in the city.
The Byward Market is 2 blocks to the North, The Parliament Buildings are about 2 blocks West, The Canadian Museum of Civilization is about 4 blocks North.
We arrived at the hotel at about 2:30 p.m. (even though the specified check in time was 3:00 p.m.) so we were pleased to be given a room right away.
The 1 girl working at the check in wasn't very friendly, but I imagine I'd be unhappy about working over a long weekend too.
She was very efficiant, but barely said 2 words to me.
Her attitude though was about the only bad thing about the hotel!
The elevators require you to swipe your room key prior to choosing your floor, which is a great security feature considering the hotel is attached to a large mall.
(The Rideau Centre)
We went up to our room (on the 9th floor) and I was very happy that the cooling system in the hallway was working well, it was cold in there! (good thing though as it was a warm day)
The cooling system in the room was great as well (had a digital thermostat)
The room itself was very nice, very new looking, and nicely decorated,
The beds in all of the Westin Hotels are incredible.
They call them the dream bed.
And what an apt description.
The bed was perfect, firm, but with enough give to it to be comfy, and covered with a luxurious comforter, and the nicest duvet I've slept under in a long time.
Large fluffy firm pillows as well.
(the beds are so popular that the hotel actually provides a flyer for those interested in purchasing them)
To either side of the bed were small night stands, one of which had a clock radio.
Directly across from the bed was a large cabinet that opened to reveal a large colour television, which had an impressive selection of over 50 channels.
Under the television were a set of drawers.
The room also featured a very large window that looked out to the Rideau Canal, and provided a nice view of Parliament Hill as well.
(This was impressive to me, as usually a room from Hotwire will have no view, since you're paying a discounted rate)
In front of the window was a large desk, there was a T1 chord for the business traveler who wants to plug in their laptop (I didn't)
The desk features a very comfortable ergonomic office chair.
Across from the desk there was an easy chair, with a foot stool.
On to the bathroom.
Very large counter, that had a large sink (with excellent water pressure, and very hot water)
A small assortment of soaps and shampoos were left on the counter.
There was also an essentials kit including shave gel, a razor, toothpaste, a toothbrush and a comb, however this came at a cost of $12.50 so I skipped it.
The shower was wonderful as well.
Westin also has what they call the Dream Shower.
This comprises of an adjustable showerhead, with great water pressure along with shower curtains that don't cling to you.
(They achieve this by adding a slight curve to the curtain rod, thus holding it away from the shower stall.
Brilliant idea I say. )
The room had a small fridge that I never opened (I always bring my own drinks) with a tray on top with an assortment of snacks you could purchase, as well as a coffeemaker with Starbucks coffee!
The hotel had a great looking fitness facility as well as a pool, I didn't get to use either, as I was very busy.
They also had a full room service menu, but since the prices were very unreasonable I stuck with the great local restaurants.
In all though.
The room was great!
The Hotel was very nice.
My only complaint was the front desk staff.
I'd love to stay here again, but it would have to be a reduced rate, such as the one I recieved.
Thank you for reading.
