About Me: A wife ... a mom ... and a Witch

The Woman of Wyrrd by Lynn V. Andrews, author of Medicine Woman

Written: Feb 27 '01 (Updated Nov 03 '06)
Pros:facinating read ... she skillfully blends 2 different stories
Cons:there is controversy on whether Ms. Andrews received the training she claims
The Bottom Line: Lynn V. Andrews has written many books in which she shares her personal spiritual experiences. While others of her works have deeply moved me, this one does not.

Lynn V. Andrews' books are supposedly auto-biographical. She shares aspects of her spiritual growth, her training, her dreams, her visions. The Woman of Wyrd is no different. Copyrighted in 1990 she talks of voyaging into the "Dreamtime" where she meets up with a woman her was once her teacher ... by reliving that experience she would be able to learn those lessons again.

The Story

Using trance and deep meditation Ms. Andrews travels back in time to view a previous life in early England. To relive it. To learn from it. To take the knowledge gained then and take it back with her to her present life.

In a sacred place known as a Dreamlodge, filled with items of comfort and sacredness, she journeys back to another land another time ...

She becomes Catherine a girl of about 13. She comes across a woman in the woods who she comes to call Grandmother.

Grandmother teaches her ways of spirit, of herbs, of ritual, of magic of the Way of the Wyrd.

The review

There is something about reading something, as a real experience, that automatically holds my interest. I was captivated by the possibility that Ms. Andrews could have in fact experienced a past life with such detail and recall.

I found the book to be a quick and light read. Its simple language was easy to understand. I grew very attached to the character of Catherine and I found myself sorry to see the book end.

That being said.

Since this is a book for grownups, at times it is too simplistic. I felt that there was a depth missing, places where it should have gone deeper. It felt, at times, that I was reading a novel intended for adolescents.

Final Thoughts

While the premise was fascinating, and the story engaging .. I felt that this could have been so much more. I realize that Me. Andrews was trying to convey a personal spiritual experience, and that embellishments would have been in appropriate. But, I was not effected by this book as deeply as her earlier works.

All in all I’d say that this is one for Lynn V. Andrews fans alone. If you are not familiar with her other works, or if you do not care for them, you are probably best served passing it by.
