Cons: could cover topics more in depth, present statistics, leave out some of "common sense" advice
The Bottom Line: Describes some of the most common situations and some of the most bizarre ones in human relationships - enjoyable, fast reading that will fill you with facts.

What if you do not date? - then most sure you would not have such bizarre questions popping up in your head when you and your date are out strolling in the evening park ...
"The course of true love never did run smooth" - a nicely fitted quote by William Shakespeare runs on one of first pages of this book. Just before that, the authors wrote a disclaimer lifting any consequences from their shoulders if you do try to follow their advice. A wise statement. Because the situations described in this book are most out of the ordinary, and some even are life threatening.
There are four parts to the advice: Defensive Dating; First Impressions; Restaurant and Bar Survival Skills; Bedroom Survival Skills; and Relationship Survival. In the introduction, one of the authors states that this book presents the most challenging sets of situations of all. Physical and animal nature is predictable - there is always a certain way a camel will behave or a limb will bleed or a the fire will start - but defining human behavior and nature, especially when it comes to dating, is not so simple.
Yet, it is these situations that each and every one of us can find ourselves in (unless already happily settled), and nor do our friends escape dating troubles. So this little, black book is out to make you as prepared as you possible can be for meeting all sorts of potential partners. It ranges from such topics as How to Survive Meeting Your Ex to displaying a nice picture on page 25 of a woman that is really a man, showing what proportions and signs to look for when your are trying to spot a fake. It makes readers smile - meanwhile some panic factor securely lodges this new information in our heads.
On the back we have appendices. When I went through the table of contents this fact has really caught my eye - what would an appendix for such a booklet contain?? Why samples of excuses, letters, bad and good pick-up lines, and descriptions of body language, of course! After all of the forwards I got from friends on all sorts of funny and not so funny things, pick-up lines included, I believe I have never seen the majority of the lines listed there. Excuses are very valuable too. For the book also covers the topics of missing a birthday ... and getting caught cheating.
Overall, I would consider this book to be a comical and useful reading. This is an action book - it calls to think then act - and in these ways it is encouraging because it shows to its readers that even most tricky situations can be overcome without regrets. It may fill you in on some new methods too. Previously, you might have left your drunk date at a bar not paying their bill - now you'll know that you should check if they are still breathing and carry them out to a safer location where they can sleep it off. It's a whole new perspective on people's action plans. Once read, this book can be passed on to open-minded friends who would care to have a laugh too. It can also be bought as a small gift for a friend or family member for special ocassions such as Valentine's day or Get-well token. The books can be presented as a set to make the present more substantial if needed. I believe there are currently 6 books out dealing with General Situations, Work, Travel, Dating & Sex, Holidays, and Golf. There are also unabridged audio recordings on this same set that you can enjoy.
