| AliventiAsylum's Full Review: Theraflu Daytime Severe Cold, Natural Lemon Flavor... |
This has been a bad year for colds in our house. We’re actually on our third round, and this one is the worst yet. Fighting a cold for me starts with TheraFlu Severe Cold. For quite a few years now I’ve relied on it for the first few days of a cold. It does a great job on the onslaught of cold symptoms. The only problem is that I can usually only tolerate it for a day or two before I have to switch medicines. The problem with TheraFlu Severe Cold is the taste. TheraFlu Severe Cold comes in Natural Lemon Flavor packets which I mix with hot water and drink similar to a hot toddy. Initially, I actually enjoy the hot lemony-tasting liquid. The scent wafting up into my nose as I drink seems to have an effect on the head and sinus congestion. TheraFlu Severe Cold is non-drowsy and I have never had a problem with feeling tired after drinking it. There are other formulas of TheraFlu which will make me tired if I want to sleep, just as there are other formulas of TheraFlu which relieve different symptoms. This one relieves nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, and fever. I’ve always found it to be a great product to relieve these symptoms, especially in the case of sore throat and nasal congestion. Sore throats brought on by the nasal drip is one of the more annoying aspects of the onslaught of a cold to me, and being able to drink this hot liquid for the first few days when that seems to affect me most is a godsend. I’ve also found that TheraFlu Severe Cold relieves my cold symptoms faster than other types of cold medicine. Perhaps this is because it’s already in a liquid form, but I when I am impatient for relief, I know I can count on it. If I’m very impatient and don’t want to wait for the water to boil in the tea kettle, TheraFlu Severe Cold can be heated in a cup in the microwave with 6 ounces of water in just a minute and a half. One packet of TheraFlu Severe Cold lasts about six hours, so no more than four packets should be used in a twenty-four hour period. I usually shift around between flavors, trying to use TheraFlu Severe Cold as long as I can. By the time I’m into the third day of a cold, I usually give up and switch off to another cold medicine. I still like using TheraFlu Severe Cold and keep it around for times when I feel a cold coming on and need relief. It works great, and if you can tolerate te taste of the hot liquid, it’s definitely one of the better medicines out there. Ingredients The active ingredients in each packet are acetaminophen (100 mg) as a pain reliever and fever reducer, dextromethorphan HBr (30 mg) as a cough suppressant, and Pseudoephedrine HCI (60 mg) as a nasal decongestant. Inactive ingredients are Acesulfame K, Aspartame, Citric Acid, D&C Yellow 10, Flavors, Maltodextrin, Silicon Dioxide, Sodium Citrate, Sucrose, Tribasic Calcium Phosphate. Product Warnings Do not use TheraFlu Severe Cold if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)(certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. Do not use TheraFlu Severe Cold with any other product containing acetaminophen. If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take acetaminophen or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage. Ask your doctor before using TheraFlu Severe Cold if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma, trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland, cough that occurs with smoking, too much phlegm (mucus) or chronic cough that lasts, persistent or chronic cough that lasts or as occurs with smoking, asthma, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis.
