Pros: small, fast
Cons: Not dependable, Unacceptable Quality Control
The Bottom Line: I would not buy this meter until the manufacturer can solve the QC issues involving the batteries and dependability problems.

| sundeity's Full Review: Therasense Freestyle Blood Glucose Monitoring Syst... |
I am a Type I Diabetic on an insulin pump. I started using glucose meters when they were the size of a block of Velveeta Cheese, had huge strips, required a large amount of blood from a finger and took 3 minutes to get a result. It is great that the Free Style Flash is small, uses a tiny drop of blood from an arm and give results in seconds.
BUT, I am on my third Free Style Flash meter in as many months. I have used each meter about 2-3 weeks and then it just stops working, won't turn on, gives an error 2, 3, or 4 or has dead batteries. Tech support attempts to be helpful and has ended up replacing the meter three times. They're best solution is that I keep a spare pair of batteries on hand. However, when receiving a brand new meter I expect that the batteries included are fresh. I am told by tech support they have no way of determining the shelf life of the batteries. If this is the case, then an easy solution would be to include a new pair of batteries with each meter.
I cannot have a meter that I cannot depend upon. I will buy a different brand.
