The Bottom Line: Although I needed to use a little elbow grease with this product, the end result is definitely what I was looking for.

| 42ENGLISH's Full Review: Thermasilk Smoothing Shine & Shape Gel |
A few months ago, my daughter had a perm put in her long hair. For the $80 I paid for it, I see it curly about a quarter of the time. The rest of the time she wants it blow-dried straight. Geeze, teenagers!
Before we started using Anti-frizz products and straightening irons, I used to iron her hair with an iron. Those days are over now as we have quite a few different products on the market. I urged her to use my favorite product, Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum but we are all different and it seemed no matter how little she used, her hair tended to look oily. My daughter cannot blow dry her own hair so I do it for her. I needed a little more help to smooth her hair so I went out and bought Helene Curtis Smoothing Shine & Shape Gel.
This product comes in a plastic transparent bottle with a purple pump cap. The gel is surprisingly not sticky as most gels are and it is quite thick. It is also transparent and has an almost soapy fresh scent. I bought it at Walmart for $4.00.
Ingredients:
Water, silk protein, silk amino acids (lysine, arginine), phytantriol, oleth-20, hydroxyethylcellulose, triethanolamine, carbomer, fragrance, propylene glycol, isoceteth-20, diazolidinyl urea, tetrasodium edta, methyparaben, propylparaben.
Not many natural ingredients with an emphasis on silk ingredients but if you will notice, not half as many chemical ingredients as in most hair products.

Heat hint: for a smooth look, divide hair into sections less than the width of your round brush. Blow dry from root to tip and set the look with the cool setting of your dryer.
My experience:
After conditioning her hair with Redken Fresh Curls Conditioner which is such a perfect product to use with perms. I towel dried it and applied about a quarter-size application, working it in
to cover the length (my daughter has long hair down her back.). It did not feel sticky on my hands or in her hair. I proceeded to blow-dry from root to tip in small sections as it says in the instructions. This product is heat activated as all Therma Silk products are and it smoothed out really easily. Then I set the temperature on low and finished it off.
I must say the finished look was very impressive. No waves in the mid part of the length and the ends were perfectly straight. Even after shaking it out, it immediately returned to the straight, smooth look she was looking for. Her hair was silky and shiny, without build-up or stickiness. The key is the cool setting at the end of styling. It really does seem to set the look.
In Conclusion:
I was a bit skeptical about this product as I have found other products that are applied before drying to leave build up and, in fact, not be very effective at all. This product was inexpensive but it did its job well leaving my daughter’s hair bouncy and shiny but also smooth and straight. It held its look for the whole day and the next without hairspray. My daughter was ecstatic and of course, mom got a pat on the back for being such a genius. I love it when that happens, don’t you? Geeze, teenagers!
