The Camouflaged Thermos You Want to Find

Written: Apr 11 '08
Pros:Keeps hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold for hours, Tough
Cons:Some of the finish can be scratched off
The Bottom Line: Thermos does it right!

Drop it, run over it, pick it up and drink from it. This virtually indestructible Thermos has been through a lot with us and it will still keep our beverages hot or cold for almost 24 hours.

Our Thermos
I bought this Thermos, model # Ncd184cmo, for my husband three years ago. He has dropped it 15 feet from a tree. I forgot it on the tailgate of our truck and backed over it when it fell off. Although admittedly we live in sand country, it was a 3/4 ton truck I was driving. Yet, the unbreakable stainless steel interior and exterior have held up and our Thermos still does it job. The hard, black plastic cup, top and bottom of bottle, and handle have some small chips/scratches, but they are only cosmetic.

Since we take our Thermos with us on hunting trips I chose the Mossy Oak camouflage pattern. It is not supposed to rub or scratch off. But, due to our own mishandling of the bottle there are a few places where the stainless steel can be seen. A permanent black marker does a good job of covering the scratches and blends into the pattern.

Another reason I chose this Thermos, over others, is the handy detachable, black, canvas shoulder strap. It makes it easy to carry when our hands are full of other equipment or climbing a tree to a deer stand. The attached handle can fold flat to the bottle. That is neither a plus or a minus for us as we mainly carry it with the shoulder strap.

This model holds 61 ounces, almost 2 quarts. We have found that to be plenty for the both of us when we are out for the day. The cup that comes as the lid holds quite a bit, I'm not sure exactly how much. We rarely use it though as we have our Thermocafe Travel Mugs with us most of the time.

But...
Does it keep our hot liquids hot...cold liquids cold? Definitely! The TherMax® double wall vacuum insulation works better than I could have hoped for. Before use if I'm going to put a hot beverage in, I warm the interior with hot water for an hour or so. I put cold water and a few ice cubes in before using this Thermos for cold liquids.

When I was going on an overnight tent camping trip I knew it was going to be a chilly next morning. I prepped the bottle and then filled it with hot chocolate. Early the next day (almost 16 hours later) when I needed a hot drink the Thermos came through for me. The hot chocolate was still so hot I could only sip it.

On an all day multi-family outing I filled it with lemonade. My husband and I were the only ones that didn't dig through coolers looking for ice. That is a good thing for me. I couldn't imagine grabbing ice for my drink out of the same place many hands with fishy stuff on them had been.

You Need One of These
Even if you don't hunt, the Mossy Oak finish is more stylish than the plain stainless steel models. Even better than being stylish, it keeps hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold for many hours.

Hopefully, you wouldn't be as hard on yours as we have ours, but should take comfort that if you are the Thermos model # Ncd184cmo will survive.
