Pros: ● It?s Thomas!
● No Reading
Cons: ~~ None ~~
If you have a preschooler than you have probably found yourself down on the floor playing a few games. Thomas & Friends All Aboard Card Game was one of those no-brainer type of purchases, as my son is fanatical about Thomas the Tank Engine. I picked up this game for a cool $3.99, which in my view is a steal!
Thomas & Friends All Aboard Card Game is a jumbo deck of cards recommended for children 3 to 7-years old. There are 48 cards, with 4 of each of the 12-characters: Thomas, Henry, Gordon, Mavis, Harold, Percy, James, Cranky, Bertie, Troublesome Trucks, Conductor, and Sir Topham Hatt. The cards are made of cardstock, not plastic. They are slightly larger than a standard size deck, measuring 3 x 4?. Included is a cardboard case, and 2-instruction cards. The All Aboard Card Game features 3-different games: the Memory Game, the Snap Game, and the Thomas version of Go Fish.
Memory Game 2 to 6 players ages 4 to 7-years
Place all the cards face down on the table, or the floor. Each player takes turns flipping over 2-cards. If the cards match, the player keeps the cards, and takes another turn. Play continues until all the cards are paired. The player with the most pairs wins.
Snap Game 4 or more players ages 5 and up
Deal all the cards face down in front of each player. Each player says Thomas & Friends, in unison, and flips the top card. Play is repeated if theres no match. With a match, be the first to call out the name on the card so you can pick up the matching players cards, and your own cards. Add all the cards to your pile. Play ends when one player ends up with all the cards.
Go Fish 2 or more players ages 3 to 6-years
Deal 5-cards to each player, and scatter the remaining cards in the center face down. On your turn, ask one player for a matching card in your hand. If the player doesnt have the card, he says, Go Fish. Draw a card from the center, and place it in your hand. If you draw a card that you asked for, go again. If you draw a card that completes a set of 4, place the match down on the table face up, but do not go again. Play ends when all the sets are matched. The player with the most sets wins.
The Thomas & Friends All Aboard Card Game made the cut when looking for a small item to place in my sons stocking at Christmas. William was only three at the time, but old enough for the Matching Game. Since we were flying cross-country I figured the set might entertain him while waiting in the airport on our way home. Umm yes, I am one of those annoying parents who plays card games, or colors with my child while waiting to board a plane. Im taken aback by how much William enjoys this game. He has two other memory-type of games, which hes fond of, but theyre not his favorites. Thomas & Friends must be the engaging factor. Consequently, the All Aboard Card Game lives in his traveling backpack, as not to forget when on the road. We travel frequently, and the compact size makes for awesome packing, and traveling.
In addition, the larger deck is appreciated. We recently started playing Go Fish, and the larger size makes it easier for the little guy to handle. Briarpatch carries all sorts of character card games: Finding Nemo, Jay Jay the Jet Plane, I Spy, and Groovy Girl to name a few. The company also offers replacement cards. If you need a pocket-sized item to entertain a young child whos not quite reading, consider Briarpatch card games.
