Review of the Thompson Center Triumph

A couple of months ago I was looking for a new muzzleloader because the one I owned wasnt in good shape. I asked my friend what he thought should I should buy and he responded with, the Thompson Center Triumph 50 caliber. He recommended it to me because he owns one and he would never own another brand. We went to the shooting range so I could try out his gun and make sure this is the one I wanted. After I shot the first I fell in love with this gun and I knew it was the right one for me. When I bought the Thompson Center Triumph, I too felt like there was no other muzzleloader for me.
The Triumph retails at $559.99, which is one of the most expensive muzzleloaders. But its the one of the leading muzzleloaders on the market today and is widely used by hunters all over the U.S. I purchased the Triumph because I needed a better muzzleloader for deer hunting. My first muzzleloader was a Knight and it was a 45 caliber. Its a generic muzzleloader that can be purchased at a local hunting store. It is an ok gun for a starter but I needed to get something bigger and better. This Thompson Center is one of the best guns for muzzle loading.
The thing that makes the Triumph a great gun is the quality and time that is put into them. The gun shoots straight and I have no problem with the quality of its performance. This Triumph has the new weather shield barrel. The weather shield protection comes standard on all the new Triumphs on the market. This protects the barrel from rusting if it gets wet or dirty.
The only complaint I have about the quality of this gun is its weight. The specs of this gun say that it weighs 6-1/2 pounds. That doesnt seem like much but it gets heavy when walking through the woods for a long period of time. The only thing that I think the gun could be improved on is its weight. It also has the new break open design, which means it opens just like your regular shotgun. This makes everything easier to work with, such as loading, priming, cleaning. The barrels have been upgraded to hold a higher grain bullet with less twist in the barrel. A heavier grain means that it is a heavier bullet. Heavier bullets ensure more confidence when contact is made with the target.
It has easier access to the primer which is on the very back of the gun. The primer is what ignites black powder in the chamber. On my first gun the primer was in the middle of the gun underneath the scope. The reason I dont like the primer in the middle is because it was hard to get my fingers between the gun and the scope to put the primer cap on. With the Triumph it eliminates all of the problems with the primer being on the back of the gun. When installing the primer Triumph just break open the gun and the primer is right there in the open. With the Thompson there is no question if its going to shoot straight or not. The manufacture has added a longer sight radius. This is the length of the sight on the front of the gun to the sight on the back. This eliminates a lot of aiming error. With a shorter sight radius its easier to miss the target. The longer the sight radius the more accurate the shot will be.
The Triumph comes in two different colors: the real tree camouflage and black. I would recommend the camouflage because I like to blend in with the woods. We looking to buy a Triumph they are sold at major outdoor retailers. They are sold at Dicks sporting goods, Cabelas outdoors, and Bass Pro Shops to name a few.
When looking for a good muzzleloader to buy this is one of the best ones on the market today. Even though the gun costs near $600, it is definitely worth the cost. I would rather spend a lot on a gun and be completely satisfied, than to spend a couple hundred dollars on a gun and be ok with the quality. If I ever needed to buy another muzzleloader I would definitely go with this exact gun again. I would definitely recommend this gun to a friend. This gun has met all of my expectations and more.
