Intro
I purchased these for when its cold outside and my feet perspire a lot no matter the temperature and are great for hunting boots or shoes. These socks help your feet stay dry while out hunting that monster buck or other wild game.
I did not get to use them much this winter since it was a mild winter here in Florida; however, it was cold enough on a few days so that I could fully and completely evaluate them from the perspective of being a little below freezing.
Usefulness / Times To Be Used
They have plenty of comfort (despite being thin) in the aspect of cushioning because they do not just flatten out like your basic Hanes or Fruit of Loom socks that just are almost paper thin. Plus the comfort in keeping your feet dry from breathing away the moisture from your feet. As well as the comfort that you get from having dryer feet. I have also found them useful for wearing as slipper socks to keep your feet dry, toasty and comfy even while inside home during the winter months.
About Thermolite® Sox liner
The material is extremely light weight and has excellent insulating purposes. The fabric is an ADVANSA engineered product that features hollow-core fibers that trap air for the purpose of greater insulation. My experience with the fabric has always been a positive one, especially since it dries faster than cotton and stays virtually free from being wet. It carries the claim of drying 20% faster than other insulating fabrics, and drying 50% faster than cotton. As far as if my feet start to get damp or wet while wearing cotton my feet will stay wet. I would also have to agree with the statement Thermolite® is perfect layering fabric because its comfortable and lightweight, allowing more freedom of movement.*
How the Thermolite® works is from the hollow fibers having a greater surface area that causes faster evaporation by moving moisture away from the skin to the outer area of the fabric so it may evaporate at a greater rate of speed. I would definitely consider this to be a smart fabric technology.
"Thermolite® inspired by mother nature. when ADVANSA scientist created Thermolite®, nature was their role model. They discovered that polar bears have fur with "hollow" hairs for greater insulation. From this simple discovery, Thermolite® and its hollow-core fibers were born.*"
Durability
These socks will last you for many years (given you are wearing shoes or sandals with them) to come as long as you keep yours shoes properly tied and toenails reasonable length; meaning that you feet are not loose in the boots rubbing against the heel portion and your toenails are at normal length so they do not essentially cut through the sock itself. Plus it is important that you unlace your boots so you do not prematurely wear out the heel. Another thing that is important is proper washing and drying to extend life of the socks.
Care Instructions
I recommend turning the socks inside out before washing and that you wash by hand. Wash in warm water DO NOT BLEACH. Air dry only and do not air dry in sunlight because it will result in hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is simply rotting of the spandex fabric in this case. Do Not machine dry.
Other Care Directions
A fine point that is not well known is that you should not just forcefully pull on your socks because it causes permanent stretching which eventually will tear a hole in the socks or make them to where they are too loose to wear. Gently roll or bunch the socks pass on over toes to the heel then gently bring them up towards your calf. The point of this to simply prevent stretching and allow for them to be in service for years to come. I have done this practice with (my diabetic socks that I use for controlling swelling [an issue that is now rather infrequent]) and steel toe shoe socks since 1997 (ten years and believe it or not some of the socks I still have from that time frame) and really does extend the life of the socks in general but especially in the heel region.
At some point during the time which you have these socks if you notice a loose end clip it as close as you can carefully to the sock with scissors to prevent premature unraveling or bunching or pulling or breaking. (Do not just pull a loose strand by hand.)
Washing Directions
Use mild soap and chlorine free bleach so that you do not cause the Thermolitepolyester, nylon, 14% merino wool, acrylic, and lycra® spandex to fall apart.
Drying Directions
I usually place them on cycle of tumble dry low or hang dry them since high heat is not needed since they are made of wool even though it may take a little longer. High heat in the long run can cause the various fabrics in the socks to bind up some making the socks uncomfortable or loose up around the top of the sock.
Times to be used
They are perfect for hunting in cold weather or other cold weather activities or wear them like slipper socks.
