Pros: Very sturdy product that seals food great.
Cons: Accessories can be expensive.
About six years ago we started purchasing many food items in bulk because we found that it was very budget friendly to do so. We bought cheeses, meats, all frozen items as well as rice, beans and pasta's. The problem quickly became that we could not use the items before they went bad.
One night while I was on a business trip my wife was up listening to infomercials and came across the Tilia Food Saver. She just had to have this invention and I must admit that it has been one of the better purchases we have made. We purchased the Tilia FoodSaver Vac 365 / V365 Vacuum Sealer for $125.00 at Sam's Club at that time. It was a special they were running at the time and it came with two rolls of bags that could be cut down to size.
The Tilia FoodSaver Vac 365 / V365 Vacuum Sealer is a very sturdy product. While it is made primarily out of hard plastic, it is put together in a way that ensures longevity. There are rubber seals located in a circular pattern on the top lid as well as surrounding the vacuum channel. They are easily removed and replaced when they need to be cleaned. We have never had to replace these rubber seals.
The Tilia FoodSaver Vac 365 / V365 Vacuum Sealer is very simple to use. Lift the lid to the machine. It is made of plastic and it will stand up on its own while you get the bag into position for sealing. You place the open end of the Foodsaver bag along the edge of the machine. There is a strip along the edge of the unit so you can easily identify where the bag should overlap in order to create a seal. This strip is the heating mechanism and there is one located on the top and bottom of the lid. When the bag is in position, lower the lid and then clasp the locks on the sides into the locking position. Push the button located on the top of the machine down until the light on the top of the machine turns green indicating the bag has been sealed.
At this point you roll the Foodsaver bag out to the desired size and cut it. Place the contents you wish to have sealed into the bag and then place the open end of the bag into the Tilia FoodSaver Vac 365 / V365 Vacuum Sealervacuum channel and repeat the process mentioned above. The machine will then suck all of the air out of the seal-able bag and create an airtight seal. Don't worry about moisture contained in the bag because there is a drip area(also known as the vacuum channel) to catch excessive moisture. It is located just behind the heating strip so that any excess will be contained without a huge mess. It is very easy to place a cloth inside this area to suck up and clean out any mess that is made.
This is a great product and I will give you some examples of how long you can keep items once they have been resealed. A tip to make sure you get the longest shelve life is to make sure you seal the items as soon as they are opened and store them appropriately.

I have been very pleased with our Tilia FoodSaver Vac 365 / V365 Vacuum Sealer. While we purchased it six years ago and I know there are much more advanced models, this model is still working fine and why upgrade if you don't have to. I strongly suggest you purchase a Foodsaver today because in my experience it does save you lots of money.
