Pros: Flawless performance in mud. Good amount of float.
Cons: Expensive. Heavier than most SPDs.
The Bottom Line: The ATACs perform flawless in bad conditions. However, considering the price/weight ratio, I'd recommend the base ATACs instead of the carbon model.

This is my second pair of clipless pedals. I was a bit hesitant to switch to clipless pedals, so I went with a cheap generic pair from Nashbar. After getting used to them, I decided I should get a better pair. It seemed that ATACs had a good recommendation, so I bought them. The carbon version weighs a little less than the base model, however, I would not recommend spending the extra money for the insignificant weight savings. I bought these from someone new at half the retail price. If I hadn't got that deal, I would have bought the base model.
If you are used to the typical SPD type pedal, these might take a little getting used to. They have a decent amount of float, and are a breeze to clip into regardless of the gunk built up on your cleats. I have had these on in really mucky conditions and have had no problems engaging/disengaging. Some people have reported problems clipping out, but this seems to be related to the pedal design. It seems to take a little more twisting to disengage. I got used to them quickly and now have no problems. I recommend these pedals to anyone who rides in muddy conditions.
