Durability:
Pros:Incredible value for entertainment value, pleasant sounding chimes, practice hand-eye coordination
Cons:Wish it came standard on the Gymini
The Bottom Line: Given how long my daughter played with this toy, it was a bargain!
Tiny Love's award-winning Gymini activity mat for infants is a "must-buy" in many parents' book. For those unfamiliar with it, the mat has two fabric "bars" that criss-cross over the mat. An infant lying on her/his back can then gaze up at the toys hanging from the bars and play with them.
After getting the Gymini, I was delighted to find this particular accessory, the Wind Chimes, because it truly made an excellent toy even better!
ABOUT THE TOY
The Wind Chimes toy has 3 chimes--each one featuring a primary color of purple, green, or orange and each with a different pattern of squiggles, flowers, or dots in a contrasting color. At the end of each chime is a colored fabric bird or flower suspended by a sturdy strip of fabric. All three chimes are in turn suspended from a green cloth bar/frame.
The toy is intended to be hung from the Gymini's arch, so when your infant lies on his/her back, s/he can bat at it with either a hand or a foot. You might also be able to clip it onto other items. When my daughter started crawling, we later moved this to the Superyard (which has a lattice frame that allowed us to attach the Wind Chimes).
OUR EXPERIENCE
My daughter loved this toy. At first, she would accidentally kick it or slap at it, and then look surprised when the chimes rang. When she gained better control, she would grab a chime and shake so furiously the whole Gymini would shake. Even as she outgrew her other toys, she still loved playing with this one. As I mentioned earlier, when we packed away her Gymini, we still kept this toy out and clipped it onto the Superyard (which creates an enclosed space like a giant playpen).
I think the chimes themselves actually have a charming, twinkling sound. I found them much more pleasant than traditional chimes (which frankly annoy me after a while). I never found myself annoyed with these chimes.
We have many photos of my daughter smiling and giggling while batting at her wind chimes. When it comes to her favorite Gymini accessory, I'd say it is a tie between this and the red flower that plays a song (which came standard with the Gymini). I only wish it had been included with the Gymini itself.
