One of the quintessential nursery items is the mobile. What nursery is complete without this toy attached to the side of the crib, hanging over the mattress begging the little one to fall asleep to its movement?
None I say! A mobile is a must!!!!
But, you say... There are so many freakin mobiles out there, which one do I choose? Do I go with the one coordinated with my bedding? Do I go with the one with music? Rockets? Bears? Flowers? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! There are so many choices, many parents don't want to think that hard about the car seat they're going to be using...nevermind a mobile. Well, folks, have no fear -- I am here to help you make your mobile decision.
The only mobile you should look at, let along purchase, is the Tiny Love Symphony in Motion Mobile, decked out with the farm animals. I can speak from experience -- babies love this mobile!
Product Information
This Tiny Love Mobile can be found at most stores that sell baby items -- especially Target and Babies R Us -- and it retails for $39.99.
There are different varieties of Tiny Love Mobiles, some that even have remotes... but I really do think that the Tiny Love Symphony in Motion mobile with the farm animals is the one that has the best combination of features and price.
Features:
*High/Low volume button
*Three different classical arrangements by Bach, Beethovan and Mozart (you can look up the specific movements online at http://www.tinylove.com)
*Music plays for 15 minutes before automatically shutting off
*Can choose either to have the music stay on one song, or switch between the three
*The mobile detaches from the music box, ensuring that your child can still use the music long after the mobile becomes a hazard
*The mobile is brightly colored and includes many contrasting colors like black/white patterns
*Easy to mount on crib -- fits almost all cribs
*You can find the instruction manual online at http://www.tinylove.com
*Has won quite a few toy awards
*Four different types of movement attract baby's attention
So, do babies really like this... or is it just a scam to rip me off?
Actually, I love this mobile SO MUCH I've given it as a gift to two friends who recently had infants... and they feel the same way I do. This really is one of the best toys I've bought for Aidan so far. Even now that I had to remove the mobile portion of the toy, he loves to play with the music box. So why does he, and thus I, love it so much?
First, lets go with the way this thing looks. Imagine creating a child's mobile while tripping on some hardcore hallucinogenic drugs (not like I have)... that's what this mobilt looks like. The animals are soft and vibrantly multi-colored, and they have dangly legs that babies are just itching to grab. I really can't describe it that well here, it's just something you have to see to fully appreciate.
Then, add in the movement. This mobile doesn't just turn around in circles, oh no... virtually every part of it moves. As the three arms turn, the animals rotate and there are little beads on the arm that slide down as the arms spin. This mobile is constant motion -- even I liked watching it move.
Next, let's talk about the music. While it isn't playing Bach's Prelude in C as though in a symphony hall, it isn't that bad for a box that's run by three AA batteries. The music is crisp and clear. There is the on/off button, as well as buttons for each of the three pieces. Once Aidan learned how to roll over, he realized he could roll his way over to the music box and turn on his beloved mobile. He still loves to turn it on and play with the different buttons when he wakes up in the morning. That's another nice feature of this mobile -- the buttons are fairly large. Aidan definitely learned cause and effect while playing with his music box... he would punch a button and hte mobile turns on -- the buttons were large enough that his aim didn't have to be perfect... just close enough.
It really has been a lot of fun watching him enjoy this mobile. He went through all of the stages of fascination, and really solidified his fine motor skills when he learned how to grab the rotating animals (that was when the mobile part had to be removed). I probably let him play with it a little too long, but it was sturdy enough that no matter how hard he tugged... it stayed clamped to the side of the crib.
So, is there anything you didn't like about this?
I only have one small complaint, and it really is very minor... This mobile eats AA batties like you wouldn't believe.... trust me, you'll know when the batties are going dead because the music starts to sound awful. But really, that's about it.
Quick Summary
I can't tell you guys enough how much Aidan really did love this mobile. If you could have seen his face light up whenever it was turned on, you would run out and buy one for your baby without a second thought. He would grin and squeal when the mobile turned on, trying to make grabs for the little rotating animals while babbling at it in gibberish. He loved it so much he would actually turn the thing on himself at three months just to watch it move... and to be honest, he loves the music box to this day. I still hear the music coming through the baby monitor in the mornings. It has become his little morning ritual to crawl over to the music box and listen to the songs it plays before I come in and change him. His eyes just light up when he hears the familiar arrangements. This isn't just Aidan, either... both of my friends whose babies are about a month old have admitted their little ones can't get enough of their mobile.
Now, I do have to bring this up... some people use their mobiles to put infants to sleep... Aidan wouldn't have any of that, he loved to watch his Tiny Love Symphony in Motion mobile during the morning and rest of the day. I don't think he ever fell asleep while watching it (I think it may have been a little too stimulating for him). Also, this is a really funky looking mobile -- which made me an instant fan. I'm really much weirder than I seem to be, I don't do matching baby crap. If you're looking for a mobile to fit into your pink or blue nursery, this probably isn't the right mobile for you... but if you want a fun, interesting mobile that your baby will absolutely adore... then look no further!
Pros:
*Soft, plush, brightly-colored, funky looking animals with dangly legs attract baby's attention
*Bright colors and vivid contrasts hold baby's attention
*Four different movements, including the rotating arms, falling beads and moving animals, kept even my attention
*Three different classical movements by Bach, Beethovan and Mozart
*When the beads slide down the arms, they make clacking noises that Aidan found fascinating
*Plays for 15 minutes before automatically stopping
*Attaches easily to crib with music box in reach of infant
*Only uses three AA batteries
*Can opt for one classical piece to be replayed, or for the music box to cycle through all three pieces
*The mobile detaches so that the little one can still play with the music box when they have outgrown the actual mobile
*Can keep the little one occupied for 15 whole minutes while you get things done around the house
*Aidan absolutely, positively loved this mobile... and honestly, that's probably the biggest plus of all
Cons:
*Eats through batteries like a monster
*Might not match your perfectly coordinated nursery
*Might be too stimulating for your little one to fall asleep to
Final Judgement: I really think this is the only mobile anyone should consider. It's so much fun -- colorful, musical and fascinating -- that you just can't pass it up for one of those plain-vanilla plush mobiles that spin in circles. Even if it doesn't match your decor, you'll get tons of comments on it from friends and neighbors (everyone wanted to know where I got it) -- everyone loves it. So far 3/3 little ones adore theirs -- I'm sure yours will too. Go out and buy a Tiny Love Symphony in Motion (Farm animal) Mobile today!
