After one of my rare snap hooks I wandered down into the Out of Bounds area looking for my ball, I found it and also stumbled across a Pro V1x and I put in the main pocket of my bag and kept playing.
This week, I decided to put it on the tee and give it the test. It was the first time I had ever used a Pro V1. I had heard all the hype but never used one.
The first thing I noticed about the ball (other than the un-apparelled long distance) was the really nice feeling it gave coming off the driver. The feeling I got was a soft feeling, yet solid. It wasn't a really soft mushy feeling which to me is important to me.
My handicap has dropped 12 over the last couple of weeks but I'm still not a totally straight hitter. The one problem I had with the ball (mainly with the driver) is that you get so much spin it accentuates your hook or slice. I had trouble keeping the ball in the fairway all day.
Putting that aside, everything else was just great.
The nice feel you get coming off all the clubs is great and for me, it gave me more confidence for my ball-striking.
But the main difference I noticed with the Pro V1 was the added spin, especially with chips and pitches. The ability I had to stop the ball when I wanted was great and I saved a few strokes around the greens by being able to do that.
Overall, the Pro V1 is great in all areas but is really only suited to low handicap players because the added spin accentuates a slice or a hook but other than that it is flawless.
When I become a more consistent and straighter player I will put a box of these in my bag.
