Pros: Easy, small, tasty, healthy popcorn maker!
Cons: Louder than popping corn in the microwave?
I'm a popcorn fan- I simply love the stuff! When I was a kid coming home from school in the afternoon, I would almost always head straight for the kitchen, pop some corn, pour melted butter over it, and chill out with some cartoons on the TV... until Mom yelled for me to start my homework for the eighth time!
Microwave popcorn was a pretty grand invention... just pop (no pun intended...really) the bag in the microwave and let it go- right? WRONG! I am the QUEEN of burnt popcorn. Ugh!!! I never could get the timing right. Also... microwave buttered popcorn just doesn't taste quite right, in my not-so-humble opinion! (Not to mention the butter smell that STILL permeates my microwave permanently...) I prefer the "natural" popcorn with my own butter poured on... but maybe I'm just picky!
My husband and I received a gift card to a local "everything-you-could-ever-want-and-some-things-you-don't-for-the-home" type store. We promptly lost it. I was fortunate enough to find it, though whilst packing for our recent move. WooHoo!!! Shopping spree... (or something). So we head out to the store... we'll call it Sheets 'n Stuff. We walk in the door and frankly I don't know where the heck to start! Too much!!! The overwhelmed feeling quickly wanes and I go into shopping mode. To make a longer story shorter... we managed to take in quite a lot of loot... one item of which was the Toastmaster 6202 Hot Air Popcorn Popper. Oooh I was thrilled when I spotted it? and for a mere $9.99? it couldn?t be beat- even though we weren?t paying for it ourselves I like a good bargain!
Great story? I know! *wink* But what about the PRODUCT!? I hear you? I hear you! Here?s the story, Morning Petunia:
Toastmaster 6202 Hot Air Popcorn Popper
~Hot Air Popper: Read here No Oil Necessary Popper. Yup?s?right! You too can have healthy popcorn popped without the added fat and/or cholesterol of oil! (You?ll still have to have the dental floss handy for those pesky hulls, though!)
~Holds ? cup of kernels: A ? cup might not sound like a whole lot? but once those babies are popped?you?ve got 3 quarts (yes, you read that right? 3 QUARTS) of popped corn goodness!
~Removable tray lid: This serves two nifty purposes? the lid measures ? cup exactly. Fill it will kernels, dump them in the machine, and then use it for it?s second purpose? MELTING BUTTER!!! The little tray like lid is perfect for a pat or four of butter? and the heat from the machine kindly melts it for you while your corn is popping. Then the lid easily comes off (courtesy of it?s little handle)? and you can pour your freshly melted butter over your freshly popped corn. One little hint- put the butter in the lid before you start the popping process or else it won?t melt all the way.
~Uses Cheap Popcorn: I know that sounds sort of funny? especially if you?ve been using microwave popcorn for a long time! I can buy a bag of popcorn kernels for an 1/8th of the price of its prepackaged microwave counterpart. Which brings to mind another feature?
~No Steamy Bags: No? I?m not referring to a bunch of designer purses in the sauna? nor am I referring to older women in the humid south? but you probably figured that out!!! Seriously though? It?s entirely too easy to burn yourself when you open a bag of microwave popcorn only to gingerly shake into a bowl for serving. The Toastmaster 6202 Hot Air Popcorn Popper conveniently projectile pops your corn into the bowl. Sorry ladies? you?ll have to get your steam facials elsewhere!
~3 Quarts in 3 Minutes: Yesiree Bob! It takes just a few more seconds than microwave popcorn!
The Only Downside I Could Think Of:
~Might Be Slightly Louder Than The Microwave. But only SLIGHTLY at the most! I actually think it?s VERY quiet, considering what it does!
The Toastmaster 6202 Hot Air Popcorn Popper is an incredible product! It pops delicious popcorn:
~safely- less chance of burns. (Don?t stick your hand in the machine while it?s working, genius!)
~in about the same time as a microwave.
~for less money than the microwave.
~healthier because of the lack of oil.
~in the quantity you choose. (No more half eaten bags of popcorn? just make less!)
~and melts butter simultaneously for you!
~into your serving bowl- reduces waste by eliminating the bag necessary for microwaving.
~pops more kernels. (Only a few remain when air popping? as opposed to the entire ear left when microwaving?)
The machine cleans up in a snap- just throw the hood and lid (both translucent plastic) in the dishwasher. It also stores easily- MUCH smaller than the poppers of days gone by- it takes up about the same amount of space as a small to medium sized blender.
Do I recommend it? All I can say is that you should have gotten it yesterday! It?s a great product for its construction, price, and features. I wish I had it years ago- this year will be the first year I can string up popcorn for the Christmas tree without fear of attracting bugs to buttery or oily corn! YAY! (It?s the little things?)
