Pros: Great food, huge selection. Fun friendly atmosphere. Great value at lunch time. Kid friendly.
Cons: Fairly expensive for dinner. Limited choices for non-seafood eaters. Can be crowded at peak hours.
The Bottom Line: My entire family enjoys the wide variety of tasty dinner items (not just sushi) and desserts.

| marlamantis's Full Review: Todai |
I have been to Todai in Santa Monica, Portland and San Jose. All three times I had excellent food in a fun and friendly setting.
I'm normally not an adventuresome sushi eater, I generally stick to the familiar tuna nigiri, but I was happy with the new items I tried at Todai. But there is much more than just sushi (not that my teenage son would bother filling his plate with anything but sushi or dessert here). There was a wide variety of salads and seafood: baked mussels, marinated mussels, shrimp tempura, lobster claws with black bean sauce, spicy broccoli salad, tuna salad (with raw ahi tuna) (yum), tempura veggies, sesame string beans, fresh fruits, etc.. My younger son does not like sushi or seafood, but he was happy too. They prepare bowls of noodles to order, adding to it your choice of meats and veggies. He also liked the barbequed pork and teriyaki chicken. Of course we all enjoyed the desserts. The servings are teeny tiny, so you can get a sampling of multiple desserts without feeling like a glutton. Selections included chocolate cheesecake, pumpkin pie, chocolate mousse, fruit tart, coconut pudding, green tea cake, cookies. We have yet to try the crepes made to order with your choice of fillings, but they look yummy.
The art is fanciful and colorful. The service is friendly and attentive.
We love Todai.
