| usmcmomma's Full Review: Todai |
We have eaten several times at the Todai location in Pleasanton, California. It is a little pricey but when you are getting all you can eat Japanese Buffet, it is worth it. It is a great place to have parties since they have such a large restaurant and even have a side room you can use for more privacy. .
There is a wide selection of food on the menu. The sushi is made fresh in small batches so it is always good. You have your choice of 15 different types of sushi rolls, and 8 types of sashimi. There are many different salads to choose from as well ranging from a simple crab salad to a spicy baby octopus salad. Their hot items include a hearty Miso soup chock full of large chunks of tofu and sheets of seaweed, as well as varied choices of meats and seafoods such as Dungeness Crab, Fried Tofu, Izumidai, Korean BBQ, Saba, Sukiyaki, Tempura Shrimp and Vegetables, Teppanyaki, Tonkatsu, and Yakisoba/
One drawback to the menu however, is that there is never anything new. They seem to offer the same exact food every time, which can get boring after a while. If you plan to eat things other than sushi, it is best to arrive when they just open for lunch or dinner to guarantee freshness. Their food is made in extra large batches and can be sitting under the heat lamps for quite a long while before you get to it. When it is fresh it tastes great, but as the day progresses the quality lags as well.
Service is usually fast and friendly, except when it comes to the check. Nearly every time we have been there, we have waited and waited for them to bring the check. They are always apologetic about the delay, but it is a little pet peeve of ours now.
Overall we enjoy Todais on occasion and will continue to give them our patronage.
