Getting Your Money’s Worth with the Best Seafood Buffet at Todai
Todai Restaurant’s buffet has been called “The Mother of All Seafood Buffets” by various food reviewers and connoiseurs. Rightly so because Todai offers regular diners like the rest us an option to its very extensive seafood and sushi buffet.
Having tried a few Todais before, we ventured into its newest -- the one in Orange Mall which has been in operation for a little more than a year now.
Conveniently located within the Orange Mall (2203 N. Orange Mall in Orange, CA), Todai is a clean food place where you can get your money’s worth, and definitely more. This Todai is very close to Fullerton, Riverside, Garden Grove, Irvine, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Laguna Hills and Mission Viejo through Freeway 91 and 55
Even on a regular weekday lunch, the place, which could accommodate almost 300 hungry diners (plus 50 more including the patio) is packed with patrons. What makes Todai Orange really special is its 160-foot buffet table that stretches from close to the restaurant’s entrance up to the other end. Just imagine the abundance of good food that it can offer.
Chefs stand at the back of the long buffet table and they stay busy replenishing the foods during lunch and dinner.
From the diners’ tables, the chefs can be seen preparing a particular dish. The sushi chefs turn out to be the busiest because diners can’t just get enough of their sushi, with forty different kinds to choose from. Of course, classic favorites are anago (sea eel), ebi (shrimp), ika (squid), maguro (tuna), unagi (fresh water eel), California roll, tempura roll, avocado and masago roll and salmon skin roll.
For those who prefer other types of food, stop worrying because Todai also offers a variety of traditional Far Eastern dishes of of fried rice, pan-fried noodles, deep fried tempura-battered zucchini, onions and shrimp, teriyaki beef and chicken, sweet and sour pork. Current favorites are dynamite (seafood on a shell), crab cake or omelet, gyoza (dumpling) and Five Spices Chicken Breast.
Dinner is more special as diners are offered all the shrimp cocktail, lobsters and chilled snow crab legs they can possibly eat.
Still have room for dessert? Well, you should, otherwise you’d miss the sweet delicacies offered at the dessert bar. Get into the bite-sized pieces of chocolate or strawberry cake, creme brulee, tiny cream puffs, tiramisu, banana, lemon or blueberry cheesecake, muffins and cupcakes of various flavors, On the healthier side, fresh fruit on ice includes kiwi, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple and strawberries.
It is a clean, well-lighted place indeed as the interior boasts of an expansive dining area. Even the bathrooms are impeccably clean. The blue painted ceilings with its small lights evoke a feeling of dining under the skies and stars.
The waiters and waitresses who come from various parts of the globe are very attentive to the customers. They are quick to refill your soda or your water. After the meal, they are also quick to offer you tea or coffee.
Customers leave Todai not with a heavy heart but with a heavy stomach and a big smile on their faces.
So the next time you think of treating your family and friends to an upscale Japanese seafood buffet at an affordable price, don’t think of any other place. Visit Todai Orange and experience a variety of authentic Japanese dishes to suite the preference of every member of your family.
