chickeboom33's Full Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for PlayStation 2
Tom Clancy is well known for his books and video games involving counter-terrorism and such things. I think this is his best game ever, and should be up for game of the year. The plot is quite clever: CIA Agents Blaustein and Madison were sent on a covert mission to Georgia for an arms inspection. What they found was a well-equipped army, but they were captured before they could get any closer. You are Sam Fisher. Working with the NSA you are sent to retrieve the agents, and find out what they knew. You soon find out that the agents are already dead, but it goes much deeper than that, and starts an all out war. It's quite exiting, movie-like drama keeps you at the edge of your seat and makes you want to play until the end. The music and graphics are great. After you've made it through half of the game, you get to use the SC-20K M.A.W.S assault weapon which had everything you could possibly want or need. You shouldn't use a gun unless you absolutely have too. Also, when you kill someone, you must hide their body, because if another guard finds it, they will pull an alarm, and most early missions allow only 3 alarms. The game pays very acute attention to the details of thinks, sch as how a fire distorts and thing seen behind it in a wave-like motion, the sound a body makes when it is dropped on the ground, and has beautiful light and shadow effects. If you play PlayStation 2 and love action games that actually take some thinking, then this is the game for you.
