agent004's Full Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for PlayStation 2
Splinter Cell is one of the best games I have ever played, mainly because the gameplay is right up my alley. Stealth can be very nerve-racking as well as dangerous, but its more fun to master than driving a Ferrari.
You take the role of Sam Fisher, a Splinter Cell, or spy who doesn't exsist (to your enemies). You are given a gun, but you are to use it as a last resort. Plus you are given all the spy gadgets: Lock Picks, a cable for looking under closed doors, as well as an array of other things.
Graphic wise, the game is great, unchoppy and realistic. When you use the night vision goggles (which will be often) the game looks a bit snowy, like watching an old black and white TV, this just adds to the realism of the game.
The sound is crisp and clear, but then, there isn't much sound at all, Just footsteps, voices, and machienary noise. There is gunfire, but hopefully from your gun only and when you fire your weapon, it sounds like a clicking noise, this is good because you are supposed to not be seen or heard by anybody with guns.
The gameplay is very fun and addictive, and the ps2 version is the best because it has more missions and more cutscenes. You start out in Georgia investigating the disappearance of 2 other splinter cells and eventually, the Georgian president, Kombain Nicoladz, declares war on the U.S, then goes into hiding (sounds like a brave guy doesn't he?).
There is alot of freedom in this game, such as the ability to pick up objects like a can or a bottle and throw them to distract your enemies. Speaking of your enemies, always try to avoid them, if its not possible, make it possible, if that fails, use your gun.
