Pros: tastes good, no artificial ingredients, fluoride prevents cavities, aloe and green tea soothe dry mouth
Cons: harder to find in stores
Ever since childhood Ive used a cavity-preventing rinse before bedtime. The few years when I didnt, Ive needed root canals. Ive used Act, Fluoraguard, and Biotene in the past but no more. This Toms of Maine product is my favorite.
My Lemon-Lime flavored Toms of Maine Natural Anticavity Fluoride Mouthwash comes in a 1 pint clear plastic bottle. It contains fluoride, green tea, and lemon-lime extract to fight cavities as well as bad breath and dry mouth. It is alcohol-free. There are no artificial ingredients and no animal testing was done. As with other fluoride rinses, the directions are to swish a capful in your mouth for about a minute and then spit it out. For full effectiveness, you should not eat for 30 minutes afterward.
Sodium fluoride .0442%

Ive been using this mouthwash for about a year and both my husband and I really like it. I use it nightly before bed. My husband uses it occasionally in the morning before work.
First of all, the flavor of this mouthwash is actually enjoyable. I cant stand those toxic-tasting Listerine type rinses. They burn and irritate my mouth and make me want to spit out the rinse before the minute of swishing is over. While Act is tolerable and Biotene is mild, Toms of Maine actually tastes good. It smells like flat Sprite and tastes a little like that, too. Instead of artificial sweeteners, it contains xylitol, a naturally occurring sugar alcohol. As far as I know, its a safe ingredient.
Due to years of an allergic stuffy nose, I tend to breathe through my mouth. This means I almost always wake up with a dry, bad taste. I find that this mouthwash actually helps prevent this. Biotene helped with this as well, but I like the taste of this stuff better.
So far, no cavities. Like I said, Ive been using it nightly for about a year and my teeth are healthy.
I found a mouthwash that tastes good, prevents cavities, and contains no artificial ingredients. You better believe Ill keep using it.
