Durability:
Pros:Practices skills, no pieces, keeps interest
Cons:The noise when the puzzle spring releases maybe
The Bottom Line: Nice developmental toy that keeps attention and is durable.
I was unable to buy my daughter many puzzles when she was a baby because she always ate her favorite pieces. She was a chewaholic and cardboard books and puzzles were her favorite. One day in Toysrus I saw this discovery puzzle and decided that this would be a perfect toy for her since she didnt have anything like it.
No Pieces
The puzzle is a square chunky cube with a built in handle for carrying. Puzzles are never any fun to pick up, are they? This one has lots of pieces but they dont come off, they just flip over.
No Batteries
This will work right out of the box, nothing else is needed. There are no bells or whistles on this so you will never need to worry about changing batteries or taking it away at quiet time. The springing latch on the front makes a little noise but is otherwise a quiet toy.
Description
Each side has an activity. There front side has four pieces in each corner that can be pushed to the middle to complete the puzzle. The little person standing on top can be pushed down and then the four piece pop, with a popping noise, back to their corners. The back side has round balls which can be either yellow or blue. The balls can all be changed at once by dragging your hand over them or one at a time with a finger. One of the sides has a flip over pieces to make a bear, the other side has three round balls that make wither a face or color.
Educational
Fine motor skills are used when playing with this toy. Fingers must push the button, slide the pieces, and roll the balls. The baby also learns cause and effect while they experiment with the puzzles.
Age
This is recommended by the manufacturer for ages 9 months and up. I feel that the age is appropriate to the abilities of a 9 month old baby. The only thing that is challenging is to know how and to be able to push the 4 corners together. There is nothing to indicate a choking problem with this.
Durability
Our daughter used her puzzle a lot. It was thrown to the ground more times than I can count. The cube is too big to teeth on and the product is well made so the toy and the pictures should remain in nice condition even with excessive use.
Our Experience
My daughter loved this toy and often played with it at quite times because it doesnt require physical movement and doesnt drop to the floor easily. The baby will need a flat surface to place the toy to play with it since they wont be able to hold it in one hand and use the other hand for exploring.
Tomy
I am a fan of the Tomy Corporation. Weve had a lot of their products and theyve always been durable with a fresh appeal. Tomy is the 5th largest toy company in the world and has been in business for 75 years.
