Pros: Proximity to the airport
Cons: Everything costs extra except the room itself
The Bottom Line: This place was okay, but I don't really think it is deserving of the word "TOP" in the hotel name (much less capitalized as they have it on their website)

| jsaunt's Full Review: Top Airport Domizil Hotel |
As I have mentioned in my reviews of other German hotels, I had the chance to travel to Germany for 2 weeks in the middle of March (2006). My friend had vouchers for most of the hotels we stayed in (as well as the airfare) and I was lucky enough to join her! We got to stay in small towns and in (or near) large cities, and experienced some great German food and hospitality, as well as take in some historic sites. We got a little taste of some customs and history in our time there. I love the wonderful train and subway system that they have (especially compared to where I live in Southern California). I will say that Im not jealous of the fact that half of their year is winter, as I sit here in (currently) sunny San Diego County.
Rather than lengthy reviews, Im listing some pros and cons about our hotels (since none of them have reviews on the site so far). They each had a bathroom in the room and rates were for 2 of us. All of the typical accoutrements were there (although this one did not have a hair dryer). Like the other hotels, this hotel had down comforters, a phone, mini-bar, and a TV). This hotel also had an odd little kitchenette and, oddly, a fan in the closet. Like most of the other places we stayed, at the Domizil Hotel there was only one channel in English (CNN), but we did enjoy watching some German TV to get their idea of entertainment (from what we could understand). The hotels were all clean and safe, and were certainly better than the level of a hostel, and this was no exception, although it is far from a luxury hotel.
Although we did not partake (due to time constraints and the extra charge, the hotels serves the typical German (hotel) breakfast which typically includes an array of cereals, cheeses, breads, rolls, sausage spread, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee and tea.
We found the German people to be nice and helpful, although not consistently outgoing. Interestingly, the folks who ran this hotel never mentioned where they originated from, but their turbans and accents suggested that they may not be of German descent. They did speak some English here, although generally speaking, in the larger cities more English is spoken (on request), and in the smaller towns, little to no English is spoken. Despite the fact that both my friend and I come from German heritage, we dont speak German, yet we managed fairly well, and now can say Guten Morgen, Bitte, and Danke schon with a pretty decent accent.
The purpose of these mini-reviews is to give you information if you are considering any of these hotels (and not to get high ratings or income share). If I think of anything else, I just might edit later.
Tschuss! *
Nary a salad in this Walldorf
We had a little trouble even finding the Walldorf region of Frankfurt on the map, but our primary reason for choosing this hotel was its proximity to the airport. Ill just say that it met that need. Its not the easiest place to find on your own. Fortunately, we took a taxi, but Im convinced that Id still be wandering around looking for it if left to my own devices. This was an odd little place, but hey, it was good enough and we made it to the airport on time.
Pros:
Cheap
Not too far from the airport
Airport shuttle (although not free as it alludes to on their website)
Cons:
Almost everything costs extra (breakfast, shuttle, internet access
probably each Kleenex
oh, thats right there werent any)
A little noisy
Minimalist bathroom with only a soap/shampoo dispenser (Im guessing that if wed asked for a bar of soap it would have been extra)
Odd faucet controls over the toilet (that we never figured out)
Odd shower (but at least it was included)
No hair dryer
Inability to give accurate directions to train station
Not that close to the train station (approximately 4 miles away)
No restaurant other than breakfast in the hotel itself
A little walk to area restaurants (which only had a choice of Italian, French or Greek)
Rate per night: 50 Euros/ Approximately $67.33
* Tschuss! (pronounced almost like Shoes [but almost in 2 syllables] means bye and was used much more often than Auf Wiedersehen, in our interactions)
Im posting these as stand-alone reviews, so if youre looking for other hotels, look at any of my other reviews and start reading after the intro when I get specific to the city and hotel.
