Pros: STRAIGHT, very long and easy to put in play, extremely resistant to damage.
Cons: Demands delicate touch around the greens, breeze will make it hang in the air forever
The Bottom Line: Think again about playing with a "bargain" ball: this one will definitely change the way you feel about Top Flite. Kiss the slice goodbye!

| lirubis's Full Review: Top Flite Top Flite D2 Straight 15 Pack |
Some of us golfers love to strike a pose every now and then, but I've noticed few things scare a majority of golfers than being caught playing "cheap and hard" balls.
Well, this new Top Flites are not hard at all...and also far from being expensive.
Of the 3 new D2 model available, I chose the "straight" version out of simple logic: I was leaving a bit more "draw" than needed on about half of my tee shots. I was not looking for a new ball at ALL, they just happen to be giving away free sleeves (one per person) at the golf course and I just tought "STRAIGHT" may come in handy.
I went out for a nice round with a foursome I've never played before, and since I was giving a test drive for a TM Burner, I decided to play with the free Top Flites I've received a few minutes ago. If you have never played with such driver, I should warn you: this stick is VERY long and straight.
Well, add a long and "straighter" ball like this one, and wait for the fireworks!
Right on the first tee, I was able to CARRY the trees on the right edge of the fairway (that is 238 yards out) for a total distance of... 289? And yes, the ball goes STRAIGH as an arrow!
Let me tell you something about this ball's specs: it is round... full of dimples...LOL! no, seriously: the dimples have an even smaller dimple inside of each, quite an unique feature IMO. The box says the cover is made of "Slickote", supposed to dramatically reduce sidespin off your shots.
This ball works like nothing I've played before, period. Nothing similar to previous version of "rock flites" I openly despised back when I started playing. I was hitting about 10 more yards off my driver (Granted, I was NOT playing my usual driver so the fear factor was not involved...), and about 6 more yards off my irons. The ball is extremely responsive and fast, so you dont need to hit hard on it. I hit a couple of 6 irons to flags over 187 and 190 yards out, and they got there with no problem. Neither shot strayed far from the divot too: just one small hop and the ball stops. Quite impressive!.
Ok, the short irons and wedge play became a bit of a problem at first because contrary to what I imagined, this ball DOES spin and grabs the green. They ended up being a bit more predictable for me than the Cally tours, since I've been rolling approach shots off the greens lately. Chips and soft pitches are easy to play because the ball comes out very easy. However, chips require high doses of touch because this ball LOVES to roll. I could make it check with my 60deg lob wedge with ease, but when I tried to bump/chip with 8 or 9 iron the ball would just take off towards the flag, only to stop rolling 6-9 feet after the hole!
The only thing I really disliked about this ball was putting: feels too bouncy and fast for my nerves at first, but later on grew on me since I was being able to land more of my second shots on the green, and the extra roll helped me putt closer to the hole than I usually do (yes, I tend to leave 'em short on very long putts...). One more thing that got my attention, is that it just HANGS in the air for years when using my wedges, and even light breezes increase hang time forever.. often resulting in seriously long misses...
SO, Is this really as good a ball as I am saying? For my game, I have to say it is better than 98% of the balls I've used. Absolutely the best T op Flite ball in my book. I dont care about working the ball much either, so the extra confidence that comes with the straighter flight path pays off beautifully.
One added benefit is the DURABILITY. I can honestly say that this is the first ball I've used for TWO full rounds that has stayed playable. It is a very fun ball to play with, and undoubtedly, one that fulfills its basic promise right to the last letter.
I have seen a LOT of players use at least one of the 3 versions all over the place, so I guess this time Top Flite has come up with a really good ball that has the merits and performance to satisfy us hackers like a good candy bar!
