| stripminer's Full Review: Toro 215 Mph Electric Blowers 51591 |
I recently purchased the Toro 51591 Super Blower Vac at Home Depot. They had a whole stack of them with several other models for sale. What pushed me towards the Toro was its Consumer Reports review. The unit got great marks from CR's staff and was rated a best buy. I paid $59.99 for the blower / vac and in comparison with any of the gas powered vacs it was very inexpensive.
I should explain my history with leaf blowers, I "inherited" a backpack gas blower from a friend at work. He did not want to spend a bit of time fixing it so he gave it to me. I had it running in no time and it worked pretty good for about five years. Then our relationship soured, the thing didnt like to start and it ultimately lost the battle when it road to the dump in my pickup.
I was "leaf blowerless" until the Toro. I read the reviews of it and thought that electric would be easier than the gas models and cheaper so I dove in. I got it home and had my driveway blown clean before I would have had a Gas model filled with gas and the plug connected. It worked great, the amount of air it moved was impressive and it did the job as well and maybe better than the gas one I took to the dump.
I like the Toro a great deal. It is very powerful and moves lots of air, which in turn moves lots of organic debris. I have cleared my deck, porch and driveway plenty of times with the unit with no problems whatsoever. ( My neighbor dropped about $299.00 to do the same thing with his gas back pack blower.)
The blower is not very heavy and the handle makes it comfortable to use. Toro put some thought into its design, the cord slips through a collar and over a hook that secures it to the machine. You then attach the female end of your extension cord to prongs on the blower and off you go. The unit is a bit loud and I do recommend hearing protection. On high power the unit actually will move your hand backwards with its thrust. Leaves and debris will scatter and it even comes with a small reduction tube that makes it easy to move impacted leaves from your lawn.
I cannot rate the blower for its vacuum abilities as I bought it this spring and there was no great quantity of leaves in my yard. I have used it to clean away buds and the stray leaves that seem to find their way onto my property during winter. Another reason this unit works great for me is the size of my property. I own a small lot that is within cord range at all times. I unravel my extension cord and go right to work.
In closing I think the Toro is a great little machine if you're a homeowner who does leaves in the fall and needs to clean a deck or driveway on occasion. This unit moves plenty of air, pushes leaves and debris very nicely. I am very happy with it and use it weekly. I apologize for not getting too technical in this review but I think that if your in the market for a blower you cannot beat this unit if you have a smaller yard. Used with a rake and the blower it can move stuff real fast.
