| pgarneau's Full Review: Toro Ccr 2450 Gts Snow Blower |
I live in Ontario, Canada and as an airline pilot, I'm away from home periodically. I bought the Toro in 2002 from a dealer who carried many types and brands. The criteria was as follows: it had to handle snow depths of one foot and be easy for my wife to start and operate, if I wasn't home.
I love this machine for many reasons. Beautiful styling, starts easily using electric start or by hand. It cleans right down to the pavement which 2 stage blowers cannot. The Toro can tackle snow from 1 inch to 1 foot or wet snow and slush which would bind up most 2 stage machines. The blowing time is shortened in that you can do a normal walking pace if desired. I can do my 2 car wide, 65 foot concrete driveway in well under 10 minutes. Easy cleanup and compact for storage.
I agree with the noise factor. All two stroke engines will be louder so ear protection is a good idea. The gas/oil mixing is a bit inconvenient. I usually mix 2 gallons at the time and does usually does the trick. I do my driveway and another neighbor's most of the time. The second winter, the electric starter quit and was promptly replaced under warranty. After four seasons, the 3 rubber blades had worn down to their operational limit, so I replaced them (about $60). I provided the 1 hour labor. I traced the new blade pattern onto a piece of Masonite and may cut out my own next time out of 1/4 re-enforced rubber.
