Pros: small, light, easy backup software, does not require AC power
Cons: a little slow, short USB cord, carrying case not included
For the past few years I had been using 3.5 inch hard drives that I would buy and put into a case myself. They worked fine, though they are somewhat bulky, have no backup software, and I have had trouble with them breaking. I decided to pay a little more and get this hard drive, which I am so far very happy with. I love that it is very small and light, so I can carry it around with me, and I love the fact that it does not need to be plugged in to an outlet (i hate dealing with cords and finding power outlets). This drive has all the space I need, and comes with simple, easy to use backup software that is fast to install pretty user friendly. I had considered buying the western digital elite, but decided that the bells and whistles of that hard drive were not worth paying for, since all I really needed was a small, reliable drive to save copies of my files. I do wish that it came with a case, although none of its competitors do. I did not buy the case for it, simply found something around the house to use. It does have a very short USB cord, which is great for use with my laptop since I hate cords hanging everywhere, but if you want to use it with a desktop, that might prove more difficult depending on where your ports are. Backup speed is a little slow, but frankly it does not matter much to me I just let it run in the background while I work.
