| tochriste's Full Review: Toshiba Portege 2000 (PP200C-00002F) PC Notebook |
I've had many notebook computers, but this one is the best yet. It is lighweight (about 2.6 pounds), yet it is as powerful as a desktop. It is handsomely designed and very cool looking.
The connectivity options is one of the best features of this notebook. It has a modem, ethernet adapter and wireless lan card, all integrated. The wireless lan uses IEEE802.1X technology, and allows you to connect to any available network without having to plug anything in. So, if you have a network set up at home, you can even work from your backyard.
This model comes with a 20GB harddrive and 256MB, so you can run all sorts of applications. The Mobile Intel PIII 750MHZ processor makes for a fast computing experience. It also has a Secure Digital slot, so if you have a camera or PDA that uses Secure Digital media, you can simply insert that into the laptop to download pictures, etc. Audio is excellent for a laptop.
Some of the lighter notebooks out there have a small screen. The Portege 2000 has a 12.1 TFT, very slim screen, which makes it a pleasure to work on it.
Toshiba also bundles an additional battery with this notebook. It's a good thing because the standard lithium-polymer battery only lasts about an hour and a half. The second battery, which easily fits under the unit and doesn't add much weight, adds and additional 6 hours or so.
