| rxbrown's Full Review: Toshiba Portege 2000 (PP200C-00002F) PC Notebook |
We bought the light weight and without alot of delving into details and got burned. The notebook is light weight if you opt to leave the peripherals at home, to achieve the light weight the floppy drive and cd and/or DVD drive are connected externally. If you need these things routinely get a 4000 it has them internally and you don't have to pack alot of separate items. The biggest dissapointment was the external DVD drive.
Why else would you pay a premium for DVD over CD???? To watch movies of course. The external PORT noteworthy DVD drive interface cannot keep up with the 30fps stream required for smooth video and audio. To effectively play a DVD we have to rip the dvd onto the hard drive and play it from there, a very kludgy solution. The audio is insufficient for just about anything. We had to purchase external speakers with amp to hear things stationary and a boostaroo amp for headphones to make audio through headphones acceptable on the plane and/or noisy environments. Despite over a years worth of complaints on thier tech support message boards there is still no solution with lots of angry customers.
