Pros: You can edit out the commercials
Cons: You CAN NOT record copyrighted material.
The Bottom Line: This machine is great! I just wanted a machine that would record and this one is working for me-even though the TV Guide doesn't work.

| miss45459's Full Review: Toshiba RD-XS35 (160 GB) DVD Recorder / HDD Record... |
This is my second DVD Recorder and I'm pleased. I was able to set this machine up myself and with the help of the guide book record almost everything I want.
I'm just thankful that most of the material I want to record is able to be recorded by this machine.
There are several different ways to do the same thing on this machine. I only just now realized I don't have to open the little hatch to hit the delete button I can get to it via another menu. My only problem is the 160 GB HDD just isn't enough for me so now I'm going to wind up having hundreds of DVD's scattered all over the place of things I simply didn't want to do without.
I'm the techno junkie in the family which means I have to set up the VCRs & DVDs. I had no problems with this machine. I really don't like the copyright protect feature but I'm able to copy most of what I want. When, notice I said when & not if but when I need to replace this machine I may opt for a region free version. I mean if you're going to spend that much on a machine you might as well get one that will do everything you want.
The main thing I want to emphasize is that you will probably have to spend a couple hundred dollars to get a DVD Recorder that works! That's the bottom line. I bought the nightmare of a machine from Cyberhome and that machine was defective. With the Toshiba I know it's going to work if it's not copyright protected.
