| LoreenP's Full Review: Toshiba SD-2800 DVD Player |
Ok, it's been several years since DVD players came out, but after buying a new home and living on a tight budget, we were restricted to reviewing our old VHS tapes for entertainment. Our first hint at needing a DVD player is when Lord of the Rings came out on a giant 4 disk set with additional footage, etc. That was it for us. We needed to see clear, uncrinkled (vhs tapes getting warped, overused) movies with great clarity, sound and quality.
I researched for weeks for a decent priced player that wasn't going to break the budget, yet, not BREAK. Apex or whatever they are called looked horribly cheap in Walmart, so we stayed away. After going to my favorite online store (Overstock.com), I began researching all of the available DVD players in our price range. The Toshiba SD2800 turned out to be the favorite among members at a great price. They were not kidding. Though I am mechanically inclined, even one who is not can understand and quickly begin viewing movies within minutes of setup. It has loads of hookups in the back, and with our recent DirectTV hookup, we were glad to see outputs for that as well.
The remote has great features that those who are still stuck in VCR land just cannot appreciate until one gets a DVD player. Like panning left or right on the screen, zooming to see nose hairs in an actor's nose :) and even taking out or putting in subtitles. The on screen menus make it very easy to fast foward to scenes or just a few seconds of footage. This is a great "toy" for us. This review is not a technical one, but at this price, most people are not looking for technical, they are looking for ease of use, quality and price. This is the one for you.
