I have owned several DVD players, both Toshiba and not Toshiba, and if you need a Dolby Digital decoder in your player, this is the player that I recommend the highest.
This player has many features that are helpful and necessary for the ultimate in home theater set up. First of all, it includes a Dolby Digital Decoder, which, as long as you have a Dolby Digital "ready" receiver, you are going to be hearing some great digital sound.
In addition, this player has 4x zoom (always a nice feature, so you can get *really* close to Denise Richards in "Wild Things" [or Kevin Bacon if you prefer]). The feature that is perhaps my favorite is that the 3109 has a dual tray, so that you can watch 2 movies in a row. What I enjoy doing is falling asleep to one movie, and then programming my remote to turn the volume up, and wake me up with one of the battle scenes in Braveheart. That will get you pumped.
In terms of outputs, this player has S-video (great of course), but even better is the Component Video Out. This gives unbelievable picture on TVs that have Component Video In, and combining it with the zoom really shows it off.
My one problem has been with playing CDRs on this player. However, I have yet to find a DVD player that consistently plays all of my recorded CDs.
