The Toshiba 3109 is by far the best value going for DVD players. First off, Toshiba is one of the pioneers for the DVD format. The high-end DVD players are the best on the market. The 3109 is a much better player than any other player at its price range.
Toshiba has brought the technology of its high-end players and put it into the 'mid-price' 3109. My first experience with this player was amazing. It was very simple to hook-up to my Dolby Digital (AC3) ready Yamaha receiver. The built-in decoder is excellent, you do not know what your missing if you do not listen to the Dolby Digital Soundtrack.
I find that after I watch a DVD movie, I am disappointed at "regular" cable broadcast, because the difference in the picture from the DVD to the cable broadcast is amazing. As a matter of fact the difference from a VCR tape to the Toshiba DVD is remarkable.
If you want the best picture and sound for your home entertainment movies this is the DVD player to purchase. I would suggest if you do not need the digital decoder to save some money and purchase the 2109, it is the same player minus the decoder.
