| RBradford's Full Review: Toshiba SD-3109U DVD Player |
Over the past couple of years, I have become a major fan of Toshiba. A couple of years ago I purchased my first Toshiba Television, and I still love it. So when I started looking for a DVD player, Toshiba was one of my first choices. After reviewing many different players from different manufacturers, I was convinced that this was still a good option.
Anyway, I ended up buying the Toshiba SD3109 over the internet in an auction (www.onsale.com) at a real bargain price. That was the main reason I chose this particular model. As it turns out, this is an awesome DVD player!
The SD3109 will hold 2 discs at a time. This is great when playing music CDs, since it also has a feature that will randomly play tracks from both discs. It also has built-in Dolb Digital, giving you excellent sound quality. And speaking of sound, some DVD players sound a little flat when playing music CDs. Toshiba built in a component that enhances playback of CDs, giving you a great listening experience with your music discs.
The picture is high quality, like most DVD players. One nifty little feature from Toshiba is a zoom function, allowing you to enlarge a picture on the screen up to 4 times its original size. It functions in pause mode and also in play mode. Not totally necessary, but a cool feature.
The setup menu is intuitive and easy to use. Still have the 12:00 flashing on your VCR? Well, this is one easy machine to program. The remote control is also easy to use, and the keys glow in the dark for added convenience. Lastly, this is a solid performer. Not a single problem from day one of my purchase, which was about a year ago now.
I'm not sure if you can find this DVD player widely available anymore, but if you can, I'm sure the price has dropped even lower. It retailed for $399 when I made my purchase, although I had it delivered to my doorstep for a total price of $211. As with all technology, the number of players and the enhancements will continue, with prices continuing to drop on the less new models. Find the features you need, at a price that you can afford. I found both with the Toshiba SD3109.
