| Horizons832's Full Review: Toshiba SD-3109U DVD Player |
Having a DVD player is the hottest thing today. Our computer has a DVD player in it, but the screen is so small, and the sound is not good. However, we had a lot of DVDs to be played, so we decided it was time to buy a DVD player. We looked extensively for the best one we could find for an affordable price. This DVD player was it.
The component outputs on the back are out of this world. Instead of using the traditional yellow, white, and red outputs, it separates the video(the traditional yellow one) into 3 of it's components. The sound can then be outputted using numerous different ports. The standard 2 channel, or even using a digital optical output. Perhaps the best feature regarding sound, however, is the built-in Dolby Digital decoder. It separates the music into its 6 channels for you to send to a Dolby Digital Ready receiver. Using the component video and Dolby Digital sound results in the ultimate home theater experience.
The player has some other excellent features as well. For example, the two disc system is wonderful if you want to watch two movies, one right after the other, or if you're just too lazy to take the other one out and put it away! There is also a power zoom feature which easily converts any widescreen image into a standard fullscreen image. The only problem with this, is that if you want to watch a movie with the zoom activated (like if you're watching a widescreen movie on a fullscreen tv), there is some annoying text on the bottom right that says Zoom. There's probably a way to turn that off, but nothing I've found in the manual.
The manual is detailed and easy to understand. I was hooked up and ready in under 10 minutes. The remote, however, is another story. I found the remote small and hard to use. The buttons are too small for someone with large fingers, especially in the dark: you'll end up pushing all the buttons! Also, The buttons on the player itself are too few. Only the basic buttons are there, so if you lose the remote, you're stuck.
Overall, I love this DVD player and I'm glad I purchased it. The picture and sound quality of DVDs is astounding, and this DVD player really brings them out!
