| jenne3's Full Review: Toshiba SD-3109U DVD Player |
I received a DVD player for Christmas this year. I have heard all the hype surrounding them and was hoping to be amazed by the picture quality and sound.
On Christmas night I hooked it up. I couldn't wait to see the difference between a DVD player and a vcr. But, I didn't have the right hook-up because I have an older television. We read the directions and it said I needed an "s" cable.
Of course, the "s" cable was not provided. I wasn't too happy and couldn't believe Toshiba couldn't supply an "s" cable in the package. I don't believe they cost too much.
Anyway, luckily my husband was able to figure out another way to hook it up, and we got it working. Now, I was expecting a whole lot from this DVD player since it took so long to get the thing running.
Well, I gotta tell you, I was amazed. There really is a difference. I couldn't believe how crisp and clear the picture was, let alone all the colors! The sound was unbelievable. It really was like watching a movie in the theatre, minus the annoying people behind you talking.
Also, the DVD player itself is a lot of fun to play with. I enjoyed the super quick fast forwarding and reversing. The zoom feature is also incredible. When you zoom in , it doesn't get blurry at all. It is still a crystal clear picture. Even when you pause it, the picture remains clear.
The only problem besides Toshiba not providing the cable, was that there are too many fun things to play with on the player, that it distracted me from actually watching the movie. The next day I put back in the movie, just to play with each feature so I could know what I was doing for the next time I watched a movie.
Also, mine has a multi-angle feature on it that I have not been able to utilize. This is where you can see the different angles that the movie was filmed in, if the movie has it present. I have only come across one movie so far that had the multi-angle present, and I couldn't get it to work.
After playing with the player and watching many movies, I popped a movie into the vcr for fun, to see the difference. It is absolutely amazing. I will never watch a movie on my vcr again.
The big downfall to the DVD player is you cannot record with it, though I am sure sometime soon there will be some that you can do that with.
Another downfall is that there are so many different types and prices of DVD players, that it is hard to decide which one to go with. Do you go with the very expensive one or is a mid-range one just as good? You may have to do some research before going out and buying one, but it is well worth it.
Goodbye VCR, I won't be missing you!
