What does animorphic mean? Well basically its widescreen. All HDTV's are animorphic and many bigscreen tv's are as well. So how does this relate to the Toshiba SD-3109? Downconversion is TERRIBLE! Artifacts are abundant in some dvd's when downconverted from 16:9 to normal ratio. So if you have an animorphic TV its great. However non-animorphic discs play perfectly with no artifacts at all. Picture quality and sound quality are perfect. Plus the dual disc tray is a neat gimmick. It might have come in handy when watching dual disc movies but it doesn't switch automatically so that kind of defeates the purpose. This a wonnderful player. I managed to pick it up for 278$. Now that was because I got it on clearance. You should be able to get these for about 300$ now because Toshiba just came out with the 5th generation dvd players. It's still worth getting if you have a normal TV as long as you can stand certain artifacts. However it is a steal at 278$
