QVC: The place for the Total Gym Elite

Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:affordable, works all body parts, easy to use
Cons:not for the elite athlete, can only be up to 275 pounds
The Bottom Line: I like this machine. It offers a lot for the money. It will work all your body parts.
My friend buys fitness items on line like I buy jewelry. She has the Total Gym Elite which is very similar to the Total Gym 1700 Club. There are very few differences but one that you must note is that the Total Gym Elite can only be bought at QVC.

ABOUT THE ELITE:
The price is in the $325 range which in my opinion is a good price for a machine I think gives you a lot for the money.
The Total Gym is made by FitnessQuest. Like all of these systems the Elite requires little assembly or maintenance.
Total Gym Elite claims to combine strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, and flexibility in 20 minutes a day.
The measurements are 51 inches long by 15 inches wide by 10 inches high when folded. By the way folding the Elite was very easy. When open it is 44 inches high by 16 inches wide by 94 inches high. The maximum weight is up to 275 pounds.
You’ll get a one-year limited warranty.
You’ll get an mat that you can put the Elite on; the flexibility bar (called the Pilates bar on the 1700) which you can see at the base of the Total Gym Elite; press up bar; dip bar, and a t-bar (for triceps work).
The Elite has a nicely padded back. My friend keeps it in her slightly moldy smelling basement (hope she doesn’t read this) but the smell had done no damage to the Elite.
You’ll also get a DVD, a chart explaining and showing how to do exercises. I flipped through these and found them helpful for my friend. I have been on many Total Gym machines so I didn’t need the help.
USING THE ELITE:
The Elite has 6 resistance levels going from 4% to 60%. What this means is if you have the resistance at the highest point you'll be moving 60% of your body weight rather than at the lowest when you'll be lifting 4%.
There is a knob on the back. I pulled it out and easily lifted the board to a height that was challenging for me.
The padded bench felt well built and was comfortable. We are told we can do 60 exercises on this. I didn’t do 60 but I did a lot.
Some examples of the exercises I did include using the cable which attached in a second and then lying on my back I was then able to do flyes for my chest and overhead chest presses. Turning over I could do triceps kickbacks for the muscles on the underside of the upper arm.
Lying on my stomach and putting the triceps bar on the front of the Elite which is the lowest part of the board that sits on the floor I can then go back and forth on the padded board working my triceps and shoulders. In this same position get on your knees and push the board back and forth. When the board is closest to the back you’ll be flat much like you may do on a stability ball.
One last exercise I did involved lying on my back with the flexibility bar. (The 1700 calls this the Pilates bar.) As I pushed up and down I was doing crunches. To ad to these put your arms behind your head look up at the ceiling and raise your head up for a double crunch.
I really like the Total Gym Elite and I like QVC. One of the biggest differences between the 1700 and the Elite is that the 1700 gives you a weight bar that allows you to add up to 75 pounds of additional free weights to increase your workout. The weights are sold separately but that’s a nice feature especially for people who like the feeling of using weights.
