| sarolabelle's Full Review: TownePlace Suites by Marriott Houston Westlake |
Early last year my father got a job in Houston. In March, he sold the house we were living in without buying a house in Houston first. Therefore, we were homeless for about two months. Luckily my father's company offered him interim living until he could find a house. We packed our suitcases and headed to Houston.
Our first stop was this Towneplace Suites. My dad had booked reservations for 7 days for the two-bedroom suite at $139.99 a night.
When we got there, it was poring down rain. My dad jumped out the car without an umbrella and could not get in right away because he did not have a card for access. The woman in the office let him in and offered him an umbrella to get us out the car. By the time he got the room number and keys it had stopped raining. The saying is right. If you want the weather to change in Texas just wait five minutes!
We were on the third floor, which is the highest. The elevator wasn't slow and we got up in no time. They gave us two key cards, which unlocked our room as well as the front door.
Our room was pretty big. To the left was the one and only bathroom (more on that later) and to the right was the kitchen. There was also a small table and chairs as well as a sofa, chair, end table, coffee table and TV.
The sofa could also become a double bed. It wasn't that comfortable, but we managed.
There were two bedrooms, one for my sister and I and one for my parents. My parents got the smaller bedroom. Both beds were queen size. The bed I slept in was quite comfortable. I do not recommend sharing it with your little sister though! Only one bedroom had a television. Both bedrooms and the living area had phone lines, which had voice mail and free local calls. Both bedrooms had closets. An iron and ironing board was in one of the rooms.
The television had good stations. HBO was standard as well as Showtime. However, it was satellite feed and USA did not come out the whole time we stayed.
The bathroom was small considering that this suite could comfortably sleep six adults. For my sister, my parents, and I, it was excessively small. We would have liked to have two separate showers. The sink was separate from the toilet and the tub. The towels were not the softest they could have been or the cleanest. On the third day we had to ask for another towel because we noticed that one of the bath towels was clean yet had numerous small hairs on it. Gross! A small hairdryer as well as free soap was in the bathroom as well.
We cooked often in the little kitchen they provided for us. We had a stove, oven, fridge, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. All of the necessary dishes and glasses as well as pots and pans were there as well. The second night we were there we had spaghetti and meatballs!
There was a snack machine in the check in office. They served complimentary breakfast of muffins and coffee, which we never tried. We often cooked our own breakfast in the room. The lobby had a television and chairs.
Everyday someone came in, made the bed, and took the towels. On the third day, they took the sheets and gave us new ones. We never saw these people because we often left by the time they came in.
Outside was a gated pool. In order to get to the pool you needed a card to open the gate. The pool was not that big. There were no diving boards. Various lawn chairs lined the concrete deck.
We stayed here for 7 days. It was like home away from home in a way, but nothing is really like home.
Internet service is provided but we did not use it.
This hotel is on the outskirts of Houston, about 15 miles west of downtown. It is 9 miles from Katy, TX.
