One, Two, Tree

Pros:Great music, lyrics, has a real energy that I like
Cons:Nothing beats the live performance, but this is almost as good
The Bottom Line: Great album. Lots of fun, but a lot of soul here too. Lively reels and haunting ballads. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

That is Patrick's (lead singer of Gaelic Storm) favorite line when plugging their new album. This is the third album by Gaelic Storm which was the Steerage Band featured in the movie Titanic. It actually made it to #2 on the world charts. I have all three albums and this is by far my favorite one of the three. This is a very lively Gaelic/Celtic music group, that has a great sound that is full of fun, soul and heart. If you can, you should really see these guys live. I have seen them twice they put on an excellent show. They have an infectious energy and they are quite funny. Now for Tree:

1. Beggerman--(traditional)--this interesting fast paced piece about the life of a beggerman(what else), will make you wonder how can Patrick sing that fast. This music is a reel. Its a fun little piece.

2. Before the Night is Over--written by members of the band--this touching piece is about love and hope. It talks about telling the one you love, that you love them before its too late. It is ballad. It is the reason I bought the album (after hearing it live). I decided I just couldn't live without this song. Part of the chorus: Before the Night is over, Make your heart an open door, The all we hold inside us, Won't divide us anymore. . .

3. Johnny Tarr--written by the band--Interesting little story piece, is a ballad kind of not as slow as some, about a guy who could drink a bar dry. You just have to hear this one.

4. Swimmin' In the Sea--Written by the band--upbeat song about childhood vacation memories of swimming in the cold ocean in Looe, Cornwell. Personal narrative sang by the guitar player. Fun song.

5. Plouescat Races--reel--This is an upbeat all instrumental reel. Its fun and it makes me want to dance every time I hear it. The fiddle and the whistle are wonderful in this piece. It is one of two songs that I have ever heard that make my heart glad.

6. Black is the Colour--Traditional--has a great guitar piece in the front. Wonderful sad ballad about love. It will pull your heart strings, another one of my favorites.

7. Mary's Eyes--Janis Ian--beautiful ballad about an Irish girl and Ireland in general. Its haunting. It is sang by the girl in the group who didn't tour with the group when I saw them.

8. New York Girls--Traditional--This song musical base is a polka. Its an interesting tale of heartbreak for a sailor on shore leave in New York.

9. An Poc AR Buile--Traditional--The Crazy Goat song. This song is sang in Gaelic, so not many can understand the lyrics, the music has a fun air, and the story is about a crazy goat that gets loose in a village and the villagers attempts to catch it. Its a crowd favorite live.

10. Thirsty Work--Traditional--a combination of three great reels.

11. I thought I knew You--S. Twigger--Song about how you thought you knew someone, but they were really someone else.

12. Go Home, Girl--Traditional--Great, fun song about a Gypsy who cannot get rid of a persistent admirer. Listen to the last verse--its the kicker.

13. The Midnight Kiss--Traditional, K. Keane. This is a great musical piece that consists of two reel and a slip jig.

14. Walk Through my door-S.Twigger--Prob my least favorite piece on the album. Its about being alone in a hotel room. Sad ballad.

I really enjoy this album. Its one that I wouldn't like to be without. One of my favorites from my collection of over 300 Cds of all different Genres. See these guys live in some small bar near you. Have a good time and then take this album home with you to remember the feeling.
