Last year I came across the Pokemon Pikachu C-Watch while in Wal-Mart one day, so I decided to pick it up as a surprise for my son. Since he had not asked for the watch, I was not to sure if he'd like it or not. Ever since I gave it to him, it has always been either on his wrist or on his dresser, never at the bottom of the toy box or a drawer. So I guess you can say he does like it. Besides a Pikachu watch, they also had the same watch but in different colors with other pokemon characters on them. Since Pikachu is my son's favorite, I opted for this watch.
The watch is yellow, and the strap is a double strap. You have the yellow strap like on most watches, but underneath the yellow strap is a black strap with velcro in it. This is so that the plastic strap does not rub against your child's skin, and it's also there to ensure a proper fit.
The watch has an LCD screen, and on the screen you can display the time, the date, seconds, pikachu, ash, and a few other pokemon. There are 2 modes you can put your watch in. There is idle mode and there is character mode. When it's in idle mode, the watch will just display random characters on the screen. Each character will do something animated that only lasts for a few seconds. When it is in character mode, the watch will go through all of the character animations and sounds.
You can use the watch as a stopwatch, or even as an alarm. When the alarm sounds, you hear "Time to get up, gotta catch some pokemon." The voice you hear is Ash's voice and it will just keep repeating itself until you either throw it against a wall or press one of the buttons on it. The watch does have an on/off feature if you would like to turn the sound off. This is always good, because you will most likely get tired of hearing Ash's voice.
One thing I like about the alarm, is that you can set it to go off for 5 days. So our alarm is set to wake up my son Monday through Friday for school, but it doesn't go off on the week ends.
To set the alarm or the time, you really need a parent's help. my son was not able to set it on his own, and I was barely able to do it. But in a way it's good because I know my son or his friends will not be able to set the alarm for 3 am and play a cruel joke on me.
I paid $20.00 for this watch, and recently I saw them on clearance for $4.00 at Walgreens. If your child loves pokemon, then I would recommend this watch for them. With the digital numbers on the screen, it helps them to learn how to tell time. If you can get it for $4.00, then maybe they would enjoy having 2 or 3 different pokemon watches. If not, my son is still happy having 1 pokemon watch.
The watch requires a CR2032 lithium battery, which comes with it. We only had to change the battery once in the past year, which isn't too bad considering how many times my son makes it talk or makes it go through the characters doing their thing.
