| Kittyokc's Full Review: Triaminic Softchews Allergy Runny Nose & Congestio... |
Springtime in Oklahoma means big problems for allergy sufferers and we were searching for a new allergy/cold medicine that would work for the kids. Normally they took Dimetapp and it always worked great, but because of having to take it so often, it just stopped working for them. We got a couple of samples of Triaminic Softchews Allergy Runny Nose & Congestion just in time when my ten year old got one of his wonderful allergy attacks.
What symptoms does it treat?
As the name implies, it work for all those nasty symptoms that allergy sufferers get: Runny nose, itchy & watery eyes, sneezing and congestion. My ten year old does not always get the itchy & watery eyes, but his nose does run all over the place and he becomes a sneeze machine and after a little while, the congestion sets in from all the sneezing and sniffling.
Who can take it?
Triaminic Softchews Allergy Runny Nose & Congestion is made for children ages 6 to under 12. If you want to give it to a child under the age of 6, you will need to consult your child's doctor first.
As with any medication, pay attention to the warnings before giving it to your child. You are not to give this to a child who is taking medications like MAOI's or sedatives. You also need to consult with your child's doctor first if you child has high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma or breathing problems like chronic bronchitis.
Because it is made for children 6 to under 12, there is not a long chart on the box to go through to find out how much your child needs to take. Your child can take 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as long as they don't exceed 4 doses in a 24 hour period.
What's different compared to regular children's allergy medicine?
Most children's allergy medicine that we have used comes in liquid form, here you have chewable tablets instead of a yucky liquid. Your child can decide to let the tablets dissolve in their mouth or chew them, whichever method they prefer.
The tablets are in little sheets just like with Tylenol chewables, but they have a warning on each little packet saying Fragile Do Not Push Or Crush. This is because they are softer than regular chewables and you can easily break them.
How did it work and what did my son think?
My son decided to chew his and follow up with a drink of water. He said they had a sweet orange taste, but it wasn't bad. Within about 15 minutes, his sneezing had subsided and he was starting to feel better. As with any allergy medicine it did make him tired after a while and he went to bed early that night. He woke up in the morning with no allergy symptoms and you could tell he felt better.
What's in it?
Active Ingredients - Chlorpheniramine maleate (1 mg per tablet) and Pseudoephedrine (15 mg per tablet).
For those interested in the inactive ingredients, they are: aspartame, carnauba wax, citric acid, crospovidone, ethylcellulose, FD&C Yellow 6 aluminum lake, flavors, fractionated coconut oil, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, mono- and di-glycerides, oleic acid, polyethylene glycol, silicon dioxide, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, sorbitol, starch, sucrose and triethyl citrate.
Other Information
~Each tablet contains 5 mg of Sodium.
~Phenylketonurics: Contains 17.6 mg of Phenylalanine per tablet.

Conclusion
Since running out of the samples, we have bought more and as of now, this is definitely the allergy medicine for my 10 year old. It takes care of his symptoms quickly and he can be back playing in no time. It does make him tired after a while, but all allergy medicines we have tried do that, so that's not anything unusual.
If you're looking for an allergy medicine for your child, I definitely recommend you try Triaminic Softchews Allergy Runny Nose & Congestion, it works well and fast!
