The Bottom Line: These might be hard to come by in the United States but if you can get your hands on them they'll make dieting and weight loss a much easier process.

The weight loss industry is a multi billion dollar a year market and there are always new products hitting the shelves. I’d heard talk of the Trim Patch on a few of the body building boards and most people that used them found that they really helped to control cravings when they were dieting down for a competition. Since these are not orally consumed but rather worn directly against the skin for a time released introduction to the body you are getting a much stronger delivery method and outside of an injection or suppository - this is the best way to get something into your system. Who wants to mess with needles or, uhh, suppositories when you can slap on a patch and be done with it. With so many different fat burners, diet fads, energy supplements and cutting products it was inevitable that a “diet patch” would be far behind the pack.
My sister is the one that started me on this; she’d read about it, got a few samples from a supplier and liked the way it worked. I have no idea how this got listed in the Epinions database because as far as I can tell it is a product that is sold exclusively in Europe. If it is sold within the United States then someone is hoarding a whole hell of a lot of this stuff because every sports supplement site that I checked either never heard of it or said that it was unavailable. This might have something to do with the ingredients not meeting the FDA [Food & Drug Administration] laws or something to do with importing - whatever the reason - they are screwing up something that could help a hell of a lot of people. Then again, to quote Chris Rock, “There ain’t no money in the cure, it’s all in the disease”. This is a product that can help people lose weight without having to go for bariatric surgery, feeling like they are starving themselves or otherwise feeling like they are a slave to food. If the FDA is behind this not being available in the United States then shame on them.

Much like patches that are used to help people stop smoking [or at the very least cut down on the nicotine cravings], this is worn directly on the skin to allow the ingredients to enter the bloodstream quicker. This means than instead of taking a pill or capsule that could take upwards of thirty minutes to start working, it kicks in within a minute. You also get a more direct route of entry; when you take an oral dose of something a lot of it gets destroyed by stomach acids before it gets used in its intended manner by the body. When my sister sent me the box that she purchased for me I was a little surprised at the size of them - I expected them to be like the large sport sized band aids but these were smaller, about two inches by two inches with a strong but easy to remove adhesive to them. The best place to place these is on the forearm but if you are wearing something sleeveless that might not be an option. They suggest that the thigh area as an alternate place to wear this but you can wear them wherever you like. This is meant to be worn for twenty four hours then removed and a new one applied..
I was more than a little skeptical of this product when my sister was talking about it. She said that she didn’t feel hungry all the time and that her craving for sweets was so minimal that if given the choice between a chocolate bar and some steamed vegetables she’d go with the veggies. My sister is a hard core chocolate lover and for her to pass up a Kinder [a type of chocolate] product is truly amazing. After hearing her rant and rave about these I really wanted to try them. I have some pretty strong will power but there are times when I snap and find myself digging through the cupboards, disgusted with myself when I come down off the sugar high to see that I went so far as to eat the semi sweet chocolate chips I use for baking. I figured that a lot of the success my sister had with this product was “mind over matter”, you slap on the patch and think that you have this new found sense of control when in fact it’s some kind of Jedi-like mind trick.
It’s hard to explain exactly what you feel when you have one of these patches on; the first few days I did feel an increase in energy and almost no desire to eat. I knew that if I didn’t eat small meals my metabolism would get screwed up and when I came off the patch I’d be royally screwed. After the first three days things started to even out for me; I still had some extra energy but my body was getting used to the herbs and ingredients of the patch. I maintained my usual diet of low carb foods, small meals on a regular basis and lots of water. I will be honest and say that I didn’t lose an incredible amount of weight with this but I did see differences in the mirror and when I had my body fat level taken and measurements logged at the gym. If nothing else this patch gave me control over my craving and eating when I got my period. Ask any woman if they crave some particular type of food around “that” time of the month and most will say chocolate or something sweet. For me, this is a dangerous time - get between me and a Snickers Ice Cream bar and you could lose a limb.
Ingredients
• 5 HTP: Helps to keep serotonin levels on an even keel when dieting. This is one of the major factors in helping to control cravings and make weight loss a more manageable task
• Flaxseed Oil: Ask any body builder what he or she takes as an oral supplement when dieting down and most will say flax seed oil. This contains two key polyunsaturated types of fat that are essential to keeping your body working properly.
• Fucus Vesiculosus Extract: This is the extract of a bottom dwelling sea plant that has been used in China for years to help with circulatory problems and to relieve cramping problems in muscles.
• Guarana Extract: A ‘natural’ stimulant that increases your energy levels.
• L-Caritine: This is what makes it possible for stored fats to enter a cell to be used for energy and released from the body. Without it you could exercise for hours and hours and that stored fat won’t have an exit out of your body.
• Lecithin: Helps to break down fats [stored and consumed], aid in white blood cell production and activity and helps with kidney functions.
• Yerba Mate: Added as an appetite suppressant and to help control mood swings, this herb is one of the key factors in why this patch works so well.
• Zinc Citrate: I have always recommended a zinc supplement to those who wanted to heal body piercings and tattoos quicker. Zinc citrate helps your body recover from injuries, work out sessions and in metabolizing carbohydrates.
• Zinc Pyruvate: One of the unsung heroes of the weight loss world. This is added to help burn stored fats and lower your blood glucose level without being catabolic to your muscles.
Directions
Pick a part of your body that you want to apply the patch, make sure it is clean and peel off the adhesive cover. Press firmly and that’s it. You will have to drink a moderate amount of water to stay hydrated, the manufacturers say that this is to flush out the toxins in your system which is partly true but most of it is to make sure that you don’t get dehydrated. The makers of this don’t say how long you can stay on this patch but I would suggest taking a break after a month, even for only a few days. This way your body doesn’t get used to the patch and become dependent on it. There is nothing addictive in the ingredients but I can see how people would feel the need to wear these as a type of crutch to keep from slipping back into bad eating habits.
Price
This isn’t a cheap product. Since I had some troubles ordering this directly from a company located in the United Kingdom I asked my sister to get me a box and send them to me. After the way she raved about them I had to try them to see if they did anything for me when I got my period and had almost psychotic cravings for chocolate and garlic bread. The price at the time of the purchase was 28.95 Sterling which came out to about $53.17 in United States dollars but you have to keep in mind that this price isn’t carved in stone because the exchange rates do vary. You get a months supply, 30 patches, per box and most of the sites offer you a break if you purchase a three month supply. Chances are this isn’t something that I will use all the time but I will be buying more of them to have on hand when I get my period. This is one of the few products that helps me control my at times insane cravings for chocolate.
Warnings
Since this hasn’t been approved or evaluated by the FDA you have to know what is in it and what these ingredients do to you before you purchase or use this. Like most weight loss products anyone with an ongoing medical problem should not use this. Pregnant or breast feeding women should not use this either. There’s no restriction on the sale of this but it is labeled as a product that is intended for use by other over the age of 18. I didn’t notice any side effects from this when I used it but that doesn’t mean that you won’t. If you have any dizziness, excessive sweating, cramping or spike a fever you should remove the patch and call your physician. Obviously if you are allergic to any of the ingredients you shouldn’t use this.
The Bottom Line
I have no idea why this isn’t available in the United States. There are tons of products on the market that aren’t approved or evaluated by the FDA and they are openly sold. If the FDA is blocking this then they are doing nothing to try and help people who do want to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle but need a little bit of help controlling their eating. If you have never had a weight problem then consider yourself lucky. If you have had or do have a problem - be it a hormonal imbalance or lack of will power - then you know what binge eating is like and how hard cravings can be to deal with. This isn’t a miracle product, you aren’t going to just put this on your skin and lose weight. You have to exercise and watch what you eat. The makers of this do say you can “eat naturally and lose weight” but that doesn’t mean you can sit there and stuff cake and ice cream down your throat and expect this patch to strip the fat off of you. Like I said, if nothing else this helped me control my cravings for sweets and chocolate and during the first few days I did see an increase in my energy level. If you are someone that is struggling with a weight problem and you want to lose it, this is something that you should check out. Since this is a pretty big investment - a little less than two dollars a patch - make sure you do your own research about it first.
