”…Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope…”
I have to admit these were the lines running through my head as my husband rattled off answer after answer during our first head-to-head match of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. I quickly discovered that the force, indeed, was not with me. I fought valiantly but my husband, the resident Star Wars expert in our home, won a well-deserved victory.
If you thought you knew everything there is to know about Star Wars then think again! This game is fun and challenging for all fans of this sci fi phenomenon. Even my husband was hard-pressed to answer some of the questions in this game. The 2,000 questions range in difficulty from the very easy to incredibly obscure questions that probably only George Lucas himself knows the answer to.
The questions fall into six categories – Characters; Weapons & Vehicles; History; Geography; Droids, Creatures, & Aliens; and Wild Card. Here are a some examples:
Characters -
Who was Wedge Antilles’ tailgunner during the Battle of Hoth?
What rank did Obi-Wan Kenobi achieve during the Clone Wars?
Weapons & Vehicles -
What weapon did Obi-Wan Kenobi describe as clumsy and random?
How many engines were on Luke's landspeeder?
History -
What is the first line spoken in the movie trilogy?
Who was the only Rebel admiral identified on-screen?
Geography -
Who lived “out beyond the Dune Sea” according to Luke?
What ravine on Tatooine did Luke and Biggs race through as youths?
Droids, Creatures, & Aliens -
How many meters tall is the average Ewok?
What creatures are easily startled, but quickly come back in greater numbers?
Wild Card -
What part of “stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, nerf herder” did Han Solo take offense to?
What color was the faceplate visor of Luke Skywalker's pilot helmet?
This game is unique from the other Trivial Pursuit games in a few respects:
The playing pieces – The pieces are pewter and shaped like the popular Star Wars characters. Choose from Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, or Han Solo. Because the tokens are made of pewter they can bend...I speak from experience...so care needs to be taken when handling them.
The game board - Each space boasts scenes from the trilogy, and two spaces are deemed as “hyperspace”. When someone lands on these squares he can move to anywhere on the board.
The die (or lack thereof) - Instead of a die, the game is equipped with an R2D2 electronic randomizer which is kind of fun. He beeps and whistles as he randomly chooses a number. At first I was a bit worried that little R2 would gobble up his batteries, but he automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity.
The photo cards - There are 100 photo cards that depict famous scenes from the trilogy. All questions on these cards directly relate with the photo on the back.
Episode I – The Phantom Menace - There is a special 10-pack of cards devoted to the most recent Star Wars movie.
While playing don't be surprised if you find yourself spouting Star Wars lines and cracking terrible impromptu Star Wars jokes. You may also begin to doubt the validity of a few questions and insist on watching the movies.
”…You have learned much young Skywalker…”
Yes, let’s hope that runs through my head during our next game…I’ve been studying!
