Pros:Easier to handle if you're doing ladder work. Can finesse your work with care.
Cons:Go get a durable rifle pouch as a carrying case. $15.00 at a pawn shop.
The Bottom Line: With it being less than 8 pounds, I would consider you keeping it out of reach from the children.
With many of you experiencing Hurricane Irene like I did there was a lot of damaged to trees and their branches. Or you’re that avid gardener looking to trim those Japanese Maple trees or lengthy Forsythia shrubs for the fall. This Troy Bilt Lithium ION Battery Extended Chainsaw might be just for you. It’s only for articulation grooming or if you had a few branches snapped from your trees. Limitations on this Troy Bilt Extended Pole Chainsaw I try and keep the branch cut between 3 or 5 inches in diameter. If you need to cut a thicker branch, take precaution of the branch squeezing your blade together. With the chainsaw blade only being 8 inches while giving you 500 rotations per minute at the start of your charge, when you hear the machine bogging down, it’s time to recharge the Lithium ION which for a full charge is just over an hour. The 6 amp/20 volt motor shows off its best strengths, this meaning it’s very quick the first 45 minutes. There is somewhat of an engine noise but the cutting of the wood blocks that from your ears.

When it comes shipped from the factory it is a fully assembled machine, and with all three pieces together you can trim up to 8 feet right at the start. If you only want to trim at 5 feet then the center piece unscrews by the rubber knob female end. Then just aligning the tube together and begin screwing the top knob to the chainsaw side of the pole. Always remind yourself to fill the front oil container so your blades stay lubed and protected so they don’t burn up. The front blade bar gives ample room to adjust the tightness of the blades, there is a screw that when you loosen it the blade can go forward, be very careful when doing this so you don’t lock it up. This chainsaw can use regular chainsaw oil; but just remind yourself to look at the container every hour or early if you are using this machine. The chainsaw blade can easily be taken off at the quick release, this is for you to sharpen the blade yourself or get it professionally done.
This next paragraph is for the ladies or our wiser mature gardeners. My Troy Bilt TBPS57 Extended Pole Chainsaw is only 7.7 pounds, as soon as you pick it up it is very comfortable in your hands. The handle is made of red Poly Plastic for which will be just right for residential use. The shaft structure is made out of aluminum and has a rubber handle in the middle of the top piece to keep your balance. Always keep both of your hands on this chainsaw for safety reasons. The trigger is a soft one, so just a gentle squeeze and you’re cutting wood. Wear safety glasses and gloves to avoid splinters and the small heat generated from the shaft. With the speed of the blade, don’t stop the chainsaw at any part of the final cutting. This saw is capable of making fast quick strokes that the branches will just fall straight down. With your downward pressure on the machine, you must be able to make quick stops so you don’t cut a good branch. Cutting Maple, Pine and Oak I don't have any problems with. I always go slower with Oak because they'll burn up a blade in a heartbeat.
This paragraph is for you not to make the same mistake I did. I guess I was snow blind when I ordered my machine, because I did not see that the battery and charger were not included. The day I received it the box felt kind of light and it was just the chainsaw, I called Troy Bilt and they explained to me that the battery and charger were in the accessories and I never clicked on it. So this is the deal here, the Troy Bilt Chainsaw will cost you $99.99 as they charged me. The Lithium ION Battery is an additional $119.00, with the charger going for $45.31. Now I have a Stihl Extended Pole Saw that has been very durable and still is a constant performer, but you can only do ladder work if you have a second person there because of the length and weight of my Stihl. This TroyBilt I can climb my ladder and but it on the painter’s flap and get the lighter work done. This extended pole chainsaw didn’t come with a carrying case, so I went to the pawn shop and bought me a heavy duty gun case wide enough to handle all three pieces. I do have to cover the blade after were done with a towel because oil does drip a little. Overall you will feel the same comfort I do when using this Troy Bilt TBPS57 Extended Pole Chainsaw. There is a 2 year warranty on this machine from head to toe and the only other suggestion I can give is buy an extra chainsaw blade because 8 inch blades are hard to come by.
