Pros: Enough power to run furnace, sump pump, refrigerator, freezer, some lights, tv, computer or two.
Cons: You get what you pay for. Made in China.
The Bottom Line: I suppose at this price point I can recommend it, but am leery of the quality. It needs to last a few more years!

| single_mom_nh's Full Review: Troy-Bilt 5550 Watt Generator with 10hp B&S Engine... |
I was loving this generator that got me through the 6-day power outage due to an ice storm in NH. However....
After the power came back on, I set about installing the wheels and the support leg since 1) I hadn't a chance to do it before I had to use it, and 2) it was almost out of fuel and was at its lightest (I had it disconnected and was about to refuel it for the night when I checked the main and found the power had been restored).
Anyway, after I had installed the wheels I moved it ever so slightly so I could get to the support arm and I heard this CRAAACCCCKKKK. I looked down at the bottom of the frame and it looks like it's coming apart at the welded seam! What a bummer! Now I am afraid to move it around at all lest it break apart. After all, it *is* MADE IN CHINA. A disappointment for sure. I don't know if something like this is even repairable. I'd like to win the lottery so I can go buy a Honda or Yamaha generator.
Also, I really liked the electric start, but it seemed to stop working after the first few times. At that point, it would crank the engine but not turn it over. I had to resort to manual start.
