Pros: Good in soft soil. Why such a heavy duty machine for that type of use.
Cons: Dangerous to handle. Bailout release, drive and tine control, speed control designed poorly.
The Bottom Line: Do not buy unless you have soft soil with no stones or top soil.

This machine is the most dangerous machine to run, that I have. I have a tractor, bulldozer, two mowers, wood chipper and wood splitter. So far this machine is the only one that has caused me injury (shoulder). The drive and tine control are the same. The bail out handle is designed poorly, if you do have to release it quickly, it catches on your thumbs (it does not stop until released completely). I do not know of anyone who has a hand grip large enough to release it completely, fast enough.
This machine was working great on on the pre-worked ground but when it struck topsoil the machine took off out of control. Has I have had a broken thumb in the past, I could not let the bailout handle go fast enough and the machine dragged me about 15 feet and even after letting go, the machine continued another 15 feet before stopping. If working in close spaced area there could have been more damage or injury.
I did use it another time in loose soil and it worked better. The machine is still hard to turn around, as the drive and tines both run continual on one control.
My son-in-law used it one time and told me he would never borrow it again. He had the same problem ( I had warned him of the problems ) and could not let go of the control fast enough and it dragged him ( he is 6'4" 235 lbs.)
This machine has only been used three times and is still stored.
Company states that I just did not operate as described in manual. I read the manual and did operate as directed and I have used other tillers ( 4 or 5 different models) in the past and have never had trouble controling one even in hard packed soil. Company help and response to complaints, non existant. Troy Bilt never again.
